My Canon MF4160 stopped running after 10.6.8 upgrade - Apple Care support is not helping

Has anyone found a fix to the printing problems that 10.6.8 upgrade has apparently caused? I try to print, the printer icon pops up and then immediately disappears. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Care who told me to get firmware fix from Canon - one doesn't exist for my Canon MF4150 printer.
