You can locate the image on your User Account/Library/images/iChat Recent Pictures. Thats where I found my account picture after reformating and installing Lion OS.

Have you tried one of these?

    Option 1: Do a PRAM.

Option 2: Try to Repair Permissions and Verify Disk. If there are errors on disk try Repair Disk.

For our friends who haven't done that before:

    1. How to do a PRAM Reset

    2. Boot into the Recovery Disk (Restart and press CMD - R until apple logo appears then release) then try opening Disk Utility. You have the Options there.

    Hope it works.

Can you post a screenshot of the filepath please - I do not have an Images folder in my library. Also, when advising to do anything in the now hidden User Library, it is best to include the instructions on how to make it visible.

It may mean that someone has to have established an iChat account for a folder to be created with the account picture (FWIW, I do not). However, the originals are in the location posted by IxEm (HD > Library > User Pictures). Here is a screenshot of my User Library:

Here's the snapshot of the Lion OS updated to 10.7.5 and all. I have tried to create 2 profile images and it was named Recent. Let me check the ML on that . Gotta shift again =) hold on

Here's the ML profile Location. I dunno why they put this in on that folder. iChat is gone so I checked messages instead but no image. For our friends who want to go to Library folder make sure you are in Finder Menu. Click on "Go" and hold option\Alt to reveal Library menu and click it.

I'll try to check if there are other folders that may contain my profile image.

I believe the iChat and/or AddressBook locations are simply where the system "parks" an image for that app after you choose one. I do not believe that this is the main default system location. My Address Book simply shows the same stock image(s) I've used over time (and chosen from the available pics in the Users & Groups Pref Pane).

On ML thats what Im thinking also since Addressbook inherit the image from the account picture.

For Lion I'm not that sure. I'm not using iChat on Lion however I let the folder open and try changing my account picture. It just add the imega there and the image is not cropped but quality and size was lessened. I'm not sure if its the original folder where the the snapshot is taken but its there. Can't find other folders that has that image. I hope you can find the folder we're looking for if you are not satisfied with the Lion re: iChat folder =). Cheers!

There is not a Directory location that holds your current account picture. That picture is embedded in the account information buried in the Directory Services database. You can't get to it via the Finder because it is not stored as a single file inside of some folder.

See the link I posted long ago.

Wow, must have been some serious pent-up energy on this topic. This 'issue,' doesn't reach the pram reset level of intervention, also for my question its really just a simple why. I have got the original default pref image back in place but the question was two fold, how could the system change it without any input from me and why is the frame for it round now. I think babowa experienced it the same way. I just completed the new 10.7.5 upgrade but I am always a bit suspicious. I have been getting more hangs lately and that's more likelly my fault. I know how to access the hidden libraries but I'm don't think that is where answers for me are. There are no log entries that I can find that tell me what happened.

I am also going to admit something that I hope I will not get chastised too much for, I have lately left the MBP on too often till the battery gets killed. I know hard restarts are not good so I'm thinking its more my fault than not for the image change but the frame change must be a system change.

Really thanks for the input, you are all great.

Copy this command and paste it into a Terminal window, then hit return.

    rm /Library/User\ Pictures/.DS_Store

That will delete the file that stores the window view information. For whatever reason, that seems to block viewing the images.
