The Otter Box Defender is the one I got. Full protection and looks good. Just do a Google on Otter Box Defender for New iPad.

I had an Otterbox Defender on my original iPad. It worked so well that when I purchased two new iPad 2s (my wife kept taking my iPad 1 so I bought her an iPad 2 of her own) I ordered Otterbox Defenders for both. They came a few days apart. I gave the first one to my wife. It is about as good as that style can be. All of her port covers fit nicely and stay closed unless she opens them. No complaints about it at all and my wife has used it daily for months.

That was not the situation with the Defender that came a few days later. After about two months of usage the port covers absolutely refused to remain closed and the narrow plastic bar near the data charging port broke. I was able to glue it back together and also perform a little razer blade work on the port covers so they stayed closed about half the time. A bummer but I liked the protection the case provides. I reported these problems to Otterbox but never heard back from them so I wrote a review on their web site detailing what I've written here. That review was never posted.

When the iPad "3" was announced I wanted to give Otterbox another chance so I ordered a new Defender for my 'new' iPad. I am almost sorry I did. The screen protector they use is not totally clear. It has many of the characteristics of a matte protector. When I placed the new iPad into the case the screen was no longer clear. There were interference patterns in the reflected light and the display was full of very tiny colorful points of light. It was as if my images that had no noise suddenly developed a lot of digital noise. I knew what I was seeing was interference patterns between the screen protector and the pixels of the display. I removed the case from the iPad "3" and placed it on my iPad 2. It was very good. Little or no interference at all. I am convinced that Otterbox did not test the screen protector with the iPad retina display or if they did they thought people wouldn't notice the interference patterns. To me they made the case unusable on the new iPad.

I did keep the case, however, because as I said it worked perfectly on the iPad 2 and my original iPad 2 Defender was falling apart and needed replacement. Every problem I reported to Otterbox that I observed with my iPad 2 case has been addressed and solidly fixed in the latest Defender. Now if only they would get a 'crystal clear' screen protector I'd order one immediately.

WOW ! I hope I don't have those issues ! It looks well made and I have used Otter Box on all my iDevices with no problems.

I've used an Otterbox Defender on all of my iPhones--a total of 6--and my first three iPads. As far as the construction is concerned there are no worries--the new design is well thought out and quite nice. I believe the interference pattern problem can easily be addressed--if Otterbox decides to do so.

I am curious, though, I know I am extremely picky when it comes to displays. Any hint of an imperfection and my eye is quickly drawn to it every time I look at the display. Others might not be so anal about their displays. So my question is just how do you find the new iPad display to be when it is in the new Otterbox Defender case? Do you see the interference I described?

My suggestion? Buy a reasonably cheap but durable iPad2 case (I use the Snugg for this)... and wait for the case manufacturers to catch up. While many are marketing their iPad2 cases as compatible with the new iPad, the dimensions are slightly different (important for a hard case), and there seems to be a difference in the magnetic sensor for open/close in the new iPad - some iPad2 cases aren't working with that feature, perhaps because of where they placed the magnets. In a month or so you should see some better quality cases dedicated specifically to the new iPad coming out.

Try this ipad 3 case, I got it and it fits amazingly well with my new ipad. I love it so much that I am taking the time to post it 🙂

It fits perfectly, I can use the camera, volume sections and the plus is that the auto sleep and auto wake up feature actually works (A lot of users here have complained that manufacturers claimed that their cases worked but it won't).

But the xdoria case I have works, the link is here if you need it http://x-doria.ae/shop/tablet-ebook-reader/apple-ipad/the-new-ipad/smartstyle-th e-new-ipad-case-white-detail.html

I don't know of other cases that have auto sleep and wake up feature working on the new ipad.

I totally agree. I like the case I bought for my new iPad, it fits and all controls are accessible, but it does NOT work the wake/sleep feature because the magnet is not in the right location.

I used this one on the iPad 2 and it fits my new iPad perfectly.

I like it because it is light-weight, soft leather but it protects on all four corners against drops. It is not going to protect against heavy weight or high falls like the Outter Box but it doesn't add extra weight to the iPad or hide that beautiful piano-black bezel. It also has the Smart Cover and this one works on the new iPad. I only wish it had small credit card sized pockets on the inside to store quick notes that I haven't had a chance to enter into Evernote yet. But I have tried three different cases and this one is the best for what I needed.

And it looks like Amazon has reduced the price to about $29.00; I guess because it still has the iPad 2 advertising label on it.

I like my Otterbox Defender case. I'm just waiting for my Zagg Invisible Shield HD at which point I'll be taking the plastic film attached to the Otterbox off. I am also very picky about the display. So, when I see rainbow effects where the plastic is ever so slightly off it bugs me. Other than that it's a great case.

I've decided to 'live with it' until I've read a few reviews of new sheet protectors as they become available for the new iPad. When I've seen enough to make a choice I'll order one for my new iPad and remove the plastic one from the Defender. It really degrades the display and in my estimation is a major defect. The removal and use with another sheet protector isn't ideal, either, as it will allow a lot more dust into the case.

I notice that the review I posted to the Otterbox web site nearly a week ago still hasn't shown up. That's not surprising to me. Otterbox has a habit of ignoring and never posting negative reviews. There is still only one review of this case and that is a 5 star for use with the iPad 2 and at this time it has 35 thumbs up and over 100 thumbs down. I put my iPad 2 into the case for a while and it was very good. I really suspect Otterbox never had a chance to check out their product with the new iPad prior to going into production.
