For current MBP's I recommend OWC for ram. Look here for your choices.

You can use up to 16GB in those machines. Apple may still document it as 8GB but 2 x 8GB sticks will work according to OWC. If they say it will, it will. Apple specs only document what was current at the time those specs were generated. But newer higher capacity dimms have since been developed and work in these machines.

OWC and Crucial are probably the two most reliable and consumer oriented purveyors of quality RAM today. I would suggest you upgrade to 8Gb ($50) and hold off on the 16Gb ($250) unless you run some really heavy duty applications. 16Gb of RAM in a MBP is a waste of money in most cases because rarely if ever can one utilize that much RAM and only gives one bragging rights.

Ciao.

I agree with the last post that installing the 16 GB RAM does not make any difference in most applications. I have an early 2011 MBP 17 in 2.3 Ghz quad core that came with 8bg RAM. After installing OWC 16 gb RAM, I didn't notice any significant change in booting, opening applications, or multiple tasking. It is satisfying to see that you have 16 gb RAM when checking the system profile though.
