Connect two iMAC using FireWire

I have the changed the permissions in the MacintoshHD as " no access " for everyone, which resulted in, the booting problem. I tried inserting the dvd and used disk utility which doesn't help . It is same , the os is not booting. I have seen in one website, that we can connect two mac using FireWire , make the target disk and either we can copy the Datas or we change the permissions.

But I don't know which firewire cable I want to use ???? First one or the second one ?? Please help me !! Thanks in advance

The left end of the right picture looks like a FW400 plug. Do both machines want FW400 or FW800?

FW400 uses 6-pin plugs and FW800 uses 9-pin plugs and they are different shapes:

So if both machines are FW400 use male FW400 6-pin plugs:

If both nachines are FW800 the plugs look like:

And if one is FW400 and the other is FW800 then you would have both those connectors, one at each end.

See wiki for info on FW.

And for various kinds of FW cables look at monoprice.com's selection.
