Huge backlog of delayed messages

Has anyone noticed that messages received via iMessage are being delayed by around 1-6 hours when being pushed across your other iOS devices?

I've had conversations with someone else via iPad to iPad which have been fine. But messages which are being pushed across to my iPhone have experienced delays of around 6 hours. It's quite frustrating when it wakes you up in the middle of the night.

Likewise, my friend used his iPad to send messages to my iPhone, while the iPad had no connection to Wi-Fi. The iPhone received the messages fine, but when you connect the iPad back to Wi-Fi, it starts showing up messages that you have read on your iPhone in 'real-time' mode i.e. you can see your friend typing away each subsequent message even though you have already read them. It should really be pushing the read messages to the other iOS device(s) in 'bulk'.

I believe this is a problem with the new iOS 5.1 update.

Anyone else had similar issues?

FWIW, I'm seeing something similar to this as well. In my case, I run Messages on an iPad and iPhone (both on 5.1.1) as well as still running the messages beta client on my iMac on 10.7.4. In the last few weeks things have gotten very bad with regards to speed & consistency of message arrival. Sometimes messages get from someone on a Mac to me, and they arrive at my Mac and iPhone right away but on the iPad minutes later (always connected to wifi so that's not an issue).

Other times, the messages are delayed to the iPhone instead. And sometimes they're delayed to the Mac. Sometimes they all arrive at roughly the same time. I don't see any pattern or consistency. While I wouldn't be surprised at SOME delay coming to the phone since it has to go over the cel networks, that's not the only behavior I'm seeing.

It's really annoying and I'd sure like to know a solution to the problem!
