Paper size PDF export

hello!

my name is bianca, it´s my first entry.... no, actually my second, but my first with a question about my mac book ;D

i know, there are already discussions about papersize and stuff, but i didn´t find the right answer - maybe it´s because i´m german ;D

i want to create an invoice draft, our german papersize is DIN A4 (21x29,7 cm).

in "informations" i set the papersize for printer in DIN A4 but the sheet i can see is stil bigger than DIN A4! or let´s say the artboard.

if i export a pdf file, it doesn´t show the papersize i set, it shows the artboard, even if i change the different export settings.

i want to send pdf invoices to my customers, but it has to be the right size ;D

how can i change the size of the whole artboard?

thanks a lot for your help,

b*

Bianca.

I think Wayne has already covered the main points, but I wanted to thank you for asking the question, because I learned something when I checked it out.

I usually produce pdfs from the pdf options in the Print dialog, because that works in almost any application, many of which do not have the Export… menu item. Done this way, it respects the Page Setup in the Inspector ("informations"?). If the sheet content runs to more than one page, the settings in the Print dialog can be used to only print the page(s) that I want.

I had never really looked at the Export… pdf option before, so I was interested to see that it has an option to export the sheet to a single page pdf, however big it has to be to include all the content in the sheet, ignoring the page setup. That's something I might find useful at some point. There is an option to use Page View instead of Sheet View (Likewise, sorry I don't know the German) which does use the page size you have set up, but unlike the print dialog, I don't think you have the option to only include some of the pages.

For your purpose, though, it is probably more important to follow Wayne's suggestion to use Page View in your document to make sure that everything fits inside the margins of one page before exporting.

Thank you! I´m pretty sure, I did it that way before - somehow. I tried page view and site view, both didn´t export the PDF in the right papersize, it was wayyy bigger than our DIN A4, which is our common letter size...

I tried many options - maybe I got confused and mixed too many options.

With your instructions it worked, thx!

And I got a new english lesson, thank you 😀 it´s the inspector! In german it´s "Informationen" which means informations, so I thought it´s the same in english... Great, I love to learn new english stuff 🙂

This goes out to both of you guys - thanks a lot, before I used to work with Excel, but I never was an expert - I´m more into design stuff, but sometimes I have to use those programs. So it´s always a bit confusing to change progz... I like the style of Numbers and Pages way more and now that I decided to use Numbers for my invoices, I had to figure it out - exactly that simple problem nearly made me become insane ;D

BTW: it´s not neccessary to speak german if you are no citizen and you don´t live here permanently ;D I like your language more anyway, but the learning process never ends...
