Q: Software Update Server showing old updates as new

I noticed that my software update server is showing what seem to be older, already installed updates as newly downloaded and posted.

Why is this happening?

Please see attached image for clarification.

Thanks for any assistance.

Yeah, SUS seems to have gone completely berserk. Almost like all these old update entries got "touched" in the database or something, and now they're all showing up as new as of 3/20-3/21. What a mess. Does it look to you like it removed all those old updates that had already been downloaded and then re-downloaded them? I don't have mine set to auto-download, so I'm guessing it just removed the old-old updates, and now shows the new-old updates as not downloaded.

Anybody got any ideas what the best way to check on this w/ Apple is? Feedback page?

My 10.6.8 server is not exhibiting this problem. Might you have possibly cleared the /Library/Receipts folder?

I submitted this as a Bug Report on Apple's Feedback page. I recommend you and anyone else seeing this do the same.

No, this is to do w/ the Software Update *Server*, so I don't think /Library/Receipts would affect anything. I'm seeing this on multiple servers, including 10.5.8 servers.

I am seeing the same issue here.

    10.6.8 Server. I haven't installed the Apple Software Installer Update 1.0 support.apple.com/kb/DL1512

I also have ASUS configured to deliver 10.7 updates.

Here is an Apple KB that explains that there is an Apple Software Update server certificate expiration issue.

"Mac OS X Server administrators who are managing their own Software Update servers should remove all updates signed with the expired certificates and redownload the updates from Apple"

Well that explains my problems this morning - we have a master SUS in our main campus and cascade down to another smaller campus.

The secondary server seemed to have a problem updating itself from our master and was chewing bandwidth since 4am.

Perhaps it was because I didn't know to delete the old updates before downloading the new ones? Looks like I have a project for this weekend. Thanks for the lead on this one.

I keep missing these email notices so it took me a while to get back here.

As a matter of troubleshooting I did what is explained here:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5198

It seems to have fixed my issue, yet I have a lot of old updates it seems yet they're obviously ones I just haven't seen in a while.

    Thanks for all your help.
