Why are apps not downloading or updating?

I have noticed over the past couple of days any new apps I have bought wont download and any current ones that needed updating wouldn't update either and just grey out and say waiting - it seems that a lot of people are having the same problem since updating to IOS 5.1

IS anyone else having this issue and does anyone know how to solve it - otherwise it is making the very expensive IPad a huge waste of money!!!!!

I had never experienced this until today it happened to me for the very first time in almost 16 months of using my iPad1. I simply tapped and held down on the waiting icon until the X popped up - deleted the app - and then downloaded the app again. I had 6 updates and I had to delete the first one and then reinstall the app and the the other 5 downloaded OK. That is not the most practical way of updating apps if you have data that you do not want to lose - so here are the tips that I always recommend.

Check Restrictions - Settings>General>Restrictions>On. If they are turned on you may have disabled downloading apps.

Check to see if you have a stalled download in iTunes - a song that did not finish downloading or a podcast perhaps. Finish those first if there is one in there.

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Try signing out of your account and restart your iPad. Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID and tap the ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Go back to Settings>Store> Apple ID and sign in again.

If you are getting the "waiting" icons - Tap on one of the "waiting" icons and see if you can get one of them to pause - then tap again to see if they will resume downloading.

Try this.

Double tap the icon of the Waiting app, and it shouild resume the download.

If that doesn't work:

• Log out of your iTunes store account. Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.

• Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.

• After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

If you look for the contact us link at the bottom of this page and look for tech support and the express lane, you will need to change the. Our try to whichever country you are in as it defaults to USA and I had to change to UK, then it will ask for your serial number which can be found in your settings, general and then the serial number once you have entered this info in the express lane it will allow you to schedule a call back from apple and then someone will call you to talk through the problem, I think you get free tech support for either 60 or 90 days.

I hope this helps :-)

Many thanks for replying and spending the time to write a helpful message, but for some reason I do not get the option to request a callback. Only an option to get email support. Weird I know.

Have got all my details including serial numbers in correctly and added to my profile so not sure.

Have already done the email route but they have been worse than useless.

Oh well guess I will have to ring phone support

Many thanks again
