ipad3 display resolution

Why my iPad3 (model MD365LL) demonstrates screen resolution 1024/768?

Should not it be 2000x1500?

I noticed, that my favorite web sites are not shown as under 2000x1500 display.

so, I just navigated to

http://whatismyscreenresolution.com

and it said: 1024/768

why?

How do I get promissed 2000x1500?

No, he is making perfect sense.

>>>Because it uses a technology called "resolution independence" so that web pages and apps do not look tiny on the high pixel display.<<<

>>>If you want it to look perfect on the iPad then you should modify you site just for it. The only thing that should look weird is images because text is automatically scaled to the higher resolution.<<<

If these statements are true, it explains to me why the only place I see an improvement in the display over the ipad 2 is where I can see text

Fact is, very few web designers are going to modify web pages just so that they look better on an ipad.

This isn't 100% on Apple. Web devs share in the blame along with the owner and/or host of the site... If the devs used PNG or SVG instead of JPEG, you wouldn't have the problem as it would bypass Apple's down sampling. On those lines though, many of them are limited by the company they work for and/or the hosting provider as to how much bandwidth they can use (less bandwidth = lower resolution images).
