I have a macbook pro os x version 10.6 and I'm just starting out learning how to create html docs what program do I use?

A text editor is the best choice. TextEdit is a basic text editor/word processor hybrid bundled with Mac OS X. You could use it, but I think it would be best if you started with a full-featured text editor, such as TextWrangler (free). Don't get stuck on a particular piece of software. Once you understand how it's done and acquire some experience, you'll have a better idea of the kind of text editor that would best fit your style and habits.

If you need help with a specific piece or kind of software, it's best to look for help in a forum dedicated to it. This forum is primarily for the MacBook Pro and issues related to this specific hardware platform. Using text editors and constructing blogs with WordPress has very little to do with the hardware you're working on. You could try

It sounds like you may need to go to TextEdit Preferences and make sure that Format is set to Plain Text and that under When Opening a File the box is checked for Ignore Rich Text Commands in HTML Files.
