iPad 3 Why 3G does not work after being on WiFi

When I take my iPad 3 out of my house, I have to reboot it to get a 3G connection. The 3g icon shows that it is connected but when I try and access any connection it says no internet connection. My iPad 1 seemed to work ok. I've also tried putting it in Airplane mode and back again but this has no effect.

Any suggestions please? Many thanks.

I swapped my iPad at the Apple store, got another DLXH iPad which is just as bad as the last one.

Perhaps if I swap it every time I go past the apple shop they will eventually acknowledge there is a problem. Showed the "Genius" this thread and he scoffed at "Internet rumors" that could be written by anyone - as if some kid sitting in a Redmond cafe has just made all this up.

Weird, but today my iPad actually switched to 3G for the first time by itself.

Now, given all the magic rubber chicken waving that goes in these forums, take this with a grain of salt, but this is the last thing I did.

First I set the sim code back on (it was previously changed and set off as some other tips said). Then I reset the network settings (which causes a reboot). Then I switched off the sim code and reset the network settings again.

Of course this has only happened once so far and may be an entirely random event. Although I hope not.

In any case I'm still ****** off with Apple. They could learn something from Nokia's response to its LTE data problem.

I have been following this discussion for the past few days with interest and some input, doing what ever is suggested to get a fix on the problem. No Luck!!!😠

As I previously bemoaned by me, I do not want to resort to a visit to the Apple Store and get my ipad exchanged.

Some how I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel and am feeling the doom of a visit very soon.

Proir experiences with Apple have all had good outcomes in the long run, just hoped it would not end this way on this ocassion.😟

hi everyone,

i was @ apple store oberhause and now they knew about the problem. The person on the geniusbar was very friendly and has checked it for a hardware fail, but suprise - there was non. he told me that the new iPad is not realy compatible with some carries yet, put they working on it. He also sad that he could give me a new one but he thinks it wouldn't make any different. He also sent my a Diagnostik File which a startet on my iPad so that the engeneers can look up the problem.

So bad so far, very friendly but no help ahead. They told me that they don't know how long it would take to fix the problem but atleast the know it. I asked him for some compensation but he couldn't do something but he told me that there might be something comming then they fixed the problem.

so - wait and restart

I took my iPad to the Apple store in Basingstoke, UK - the Genius there said they hadn't heard of this issue, and again suggested that a thread on a discussion forum is not necessarily indicative of a widespread problem - only a few users out of millions.

Before going to the store, I did a restore and set the iPad up as new (rather than restoring from a backup). For me, this has fixed the problem. I can now switch between WiFi and 3G (T-Mobile) with no issues. However I can see from the dozens of other posts that I'm in the minority here - most seem still to be suffering the problem.

JJ,

I set my carrier Optus manually in settings at lunchtime today and 8 hours later not had any problem after doing my best to induce the fault. Will see how it is going this time tomorrow.

To anyone thinking of swapping their iPad, it won't make any difference. Do it because it is the only way to properly log a complaint with Apple.

Same for me and 2 colleagues in Vienna using the new iPad (64GB, 3G) and connecting with t-mobile. Unpredictable 3G connection after Wifi connection, i.e. sometimes it's working and sometimes not. Up to now I did not identify any issue in switching from wifi to 3G when staying at the same location, but often experience 3G data loss (although iPad states that 3G available) after moving from home to office and vice versa - but as said: often but no always.

Did not have similar problems with my iPad 2.
