iPad 3 Why 3G does not work after being on WiFi

When I take my iPad 3 out of my house, I have to reboot it to get a 3G connection. The 3g icon shows that it is connected but when I try and access any connection it says no internet connection. My iPad 1 seemed to work ok. I've also tried putting it in Airplane mode and back again but this has no effect.

Any suggestions please? Many thanks.

I think Apple know must know all about it but have taken a view that silence is the least costly option. I have got my money back too as a mobile service was what I needed. There must be lots of people, however, that don't need a mobile service, many new comers to iPad that will think it is just them and their computer unworldlyness, and a vast number that will be put off buying an iPad if the news hit the headlines. A commercial nightmare.

In the meantime users have lost countless time and money.

Yesterday I got confirmation from an Apple Senior Manager that they know the problem, taking it serious and are working on it. It seems that it is more difficult than they thought. Obviously they (again) decided to do this siltently.

Heres what you need to do:

Talk to the hotline (they will tell you the usual stuff: never heard of, reset ect. up to "repair"). Try to stay nice and friendly. Tell them that you kow that it is a know LTE/3G switching problem and insist to talk to a supervisor or a backoffice manager. They will put you through. The manager there will tell you more and put you on a mailing list - so if they know any solution/ have a patch they can inform you (it might be a silent update i.e. you have to do a factory reset otherwise you wont get it). In my case they even provided me with a "real person's" eMail adress. These are also the people you can talk to regarding a refund.

Commercially I understand that Apple tries to avoid to much rumors regarding the "LTEgate"-Problem not to slow down iPad sales. Personally I think that this will not work in times where people are connected via Facebook etc...They will have their second AntennaGate...just a matter of time.....

I will give them another two weeks - in the meantime working in IPhone personal hotspot mode.

No excuses for Apple, they have to do something ASAP. Meanwhile I can share my experience and how I am getting away with it. I intensively use my iPad 3 every day switching several times from 3G and wifi and vice versa. Sometimes it works and sometimes not, and stops working. My solution is to reset the iPad: pressing together home button and the sleep button until the iPad turns off and the apple logo appears on the screen again. Fortunately iOS is much faster than windows and reboot in less than one minute...and it works! ...as a work around only. I am definitely not satisfied, but at least it works.

It is obvious there is something wrong with the ipad 3 and it's 3G operation but why is there silence from Apple? Surely in the best interests of the company and it's loyal customer base it would be better for Apple to acknowlege that there is a problem and say they are working on it. Currently I have an ipad 3 that i can't use in a portable situation for my work and that is why I bought the ipad to replace the Macbook Pro. Also I have signed up to a prepaid data plan that is ticking way at my cost with no benefit. Apple needs to act on this situation.

Silence from Apple ? Who says.

It is obvious apple guys KNEW this problem so well !

The proof : They just deleted two of my previous posted messages yesterday !

My messages were just explaining a possible workaround for this known problem, but that the solution is that you have to tamper with your device a little bit.

Cheers 😀

Can you post a link to a site or give us a clue? I have no problem tampering with my device if it will fix this problem for me. When I contacted apple a few ago with this now they wanted me to try resetting and full restores, which I knew wouldn't fix it! Until apple posts this as a known problem I can only assume my device will aleays run in this horrible hobbled manor compared to my fab ipad1 (which just always worked!)

I have the same problem with 3G connection after switching from wifi.

It shows full signal and 3G icon at the top left corner but won't connect to 3G network.

I have tried to change other sim card for Vodafone to Optus, Telstra but it stays the same.

I have been asking Apple store and Vodafone but there is no any Effective solution.

I have Tried to restore, reset.... But it just does not work

The only way is to reset network or reboot when switching from wifi to 3G.

Apple, please give us an answer or solution.
