iPad 3 Why 3G does not work after being on WiFi

When I take my iPad 3 out of my house, I have to reboot it to get a 3G connection. The 3g icon shows that it is connected but when I try and access any connection it says no internet connection. My iPad 1 seemed to work ok. I've also tried putting it in Airplane mode and back again but this has no effect.

Any suggestions please? Many thanks.

Hi all

I have the same issue. It started after 3 days of using the new iPad without any problems, only then the low capacity turned off the iPad and after reloading the issue cames up. Now after a while in "standby" the 3G connection isn't possible. Could only solve this issue with rebooting, or flight mode or reset of the network settings. So in my opinion, it seems to be a software issue. As it works in the beginning for three days without problems why should it be a hardware defect.

Restoring has not helped me and I have not seen any posts suggesting restoring has fixed the issue. It may not be worth your time.

This problem is not limited to being on WiFi (as the title of the thread may suggest) - it happens if you have WiFi switched on, whether you join a network or not.

I switched off WiFi yesterday and I have not dropped off 3G yet. This morning it took an emotional minute or so for web pages to start loading, but once they started, data came into the iPad as normal. Please see for further discussion:

..likewise, restoring the iPad did not fix the issue for me.

I went to the Apple store today as the telephone support engineer said that at the moment they could do nothing more then swap out the iPad. So..... I now have a replacement iPad and will continue to use it. If the fault reoccurs in the next couple of days it'll further reinforce the fact that it is likely to be a software bug.

I will report back in a couple of days either way to let you all know.

and again same problem in Germany, but with vodafone.

The problem is for sure the iPad 3, and I wonder if it can be solved.

But we all should be careful with complainings about apple products, support, and software.

All such posts will eb deleted in this forum. This happend at this link several times already:

It's all good discussing it in the forum, but please very one log a support case with Apple as it them shows in their stats. The more people who raise cases the ore they will know it's a widespread issue and not just forum gossip.

We all know it's a problem that should be fixed so ask Apple to fix it ivy logging it with them and on here.

same problem with my new iPad (64gb):

I commute every day between two cities in Germany and everytime the 3G connection interrupts and the iPad is not able to recover. Only a complete restart allows me to use the 3G internet connection again, which is very annoying.

On the weekend I traveled from Cologne to Lepizig via train and it happened 6 times that the connection was lost and I had to restart my ipad also 6 times.

Does anyone know if there is a hardware defect regarding the 3G module which is built in the new Ipad?
