Q: iPad 3 Why 3G does not work after being on WiFi

When I take my iPad 3 out of my house, I have to reboot it to get a 3G connection. The 3g icon shows that it is connected but when I try and access any connection it says no internet connection. My iPad 1 seemed to work ok. I've also tried putting it in Airplane mode and back again but this has no effect.

Any suggestions please? Many thanks.

Personally, since I switched to another mobile operator, H3G Italy, which hasn't the edge mode , I had no problem

Update... 3G worked fine for 1.5 days after the workaround I mentioned yesterday. Now back to "normal" i.e. It's not working again! :-( What really stinks here is the total silence from Apple on this issue. Unless I missed something there's been no official recognition of the issue and no indication of a fix...

I contacted Apple (Italy) today. They are investigating the possible causes of this known problem and will probably release a software update..

I tried the SIM PIN fix and it had worked since Sun. However, tonight it's back to square one. Annoyed is an understatement

    Filos1958,

I agreed with you, I am from Singapore using Singtel network, tried all methods but still facing the problem, finally I swithch to Starhub sim card and have no problem since. I have tested out for a week since and it work...

No point changing IPad or Sim card, you will still face the same problem.

The problem  lies with the Telco ( in my case) and apple must do someing to iron out the issue.

I know many of us are tied down by the telco contract, why not exchange with your friend who is on IPad 2  using different Telco and test it out.

Just to add my voice to the mix...

Same problem on Orange in the UK on the iPad 3.

I've called Orange a number of times especially since seeing the situation where the cellular data number came up as unknown.

They've tried all sorts but the only reliable way of getting 3g working again (and occasionally WiFI too) is to do a hard reboot.

My conclusion, as with the rest of you, is that this is an iOS bug.

Most vexed - especially since I didn't have the same problem in my original iPad.

Hi, under the Singtel plan were you using multi sim with a micro is card ? Or using a cutsim?

    For starhub ?

Was using a micro sim earlier then decided to try out a single sim cut sim card and my 3G seems to be okie now . Will try out further and see again

I'm another Singtel user. Same problem.

eServ Wheelock have changed my iPad 3 times, still the same problem. Swapped sims between my iPhone 4s and iPad, still no luck. Swapped with my wife's that is on M1, still same problem. Decide not to change iPad for the moment - waste of my time and energy to do it till Apple can come up with answer to all our problems!

I have complained on Apple Support Hotline. They have submitted the case notes to Apple for the Engineers to check it out (I hope its true...). Submitted on Tuesday - still waiting for Apple's reply.

My 1st iPad and this happens...

Opps, back to "cannot activate cellular data".

Seems the SIM reset (with reboot in the middle) works for a few days. I got nearly 4 days of switching from WiFi to 3G without problem after doing that, but today the problem is back again.

The only thing I can think of is that there must be some authentication problem between the SIM and the iPad. That is pretty much the only thing that expains why reseting the SIM password on and off would fix anything.

Here in Portugal, with the new iPad series DLXH and TMN network the problem continues.

Apple can launch the new of new ipad with a reset button easier to use. So they no need to worry about this.

If the apple does not assume the error proposed sending the error to the specialized press in your country, to see if it has more visibility.

Is Inadmissible the error is still without an answer by the apple
