iPad 3rd Generation broken screen

I had my iPad 3rd generation for less than 24 hours before the screen broke. My wife was using it, put it down and when she came back to use it agaijn the screen was broken (she did not drop it). The glass is broken around the edge in the black area and is about the size of a thumb print which makes me think it may have been just due to the pressure of holding it. Apple will not replace it under warranty

Has anyone else had problems with the the new iPad screen breaking without being dropped or any obvious abuse?

I too unfortantely had my new iPad dropped. My first one and now the screen is cracked in several places.

***** big time. Tried pleading with apple support seeing how I just got it last friday. But, I was never really good at selling anything.

They did offer apple care. But, I didn't get the apple care and won't be spending money on getting it to repair it. Ah, such is life. I'll be walking around with a broken but usable iPad.
