Apr 9, 2012 5:47 PM in response to peterfromdoncasterby Thunderbird310,My graphics card failed on my late 2007 MacBook pro after 3 1/2 years. Even though apple doesn't admit to it, I believe even the ATI graphics cards are faulty and prone to fail. Another issue is the overheating of these computer because insufficient ventilation. A $2000 computer should really last longer. Plenty of other people are experiencing the same problems.

Apr 9, 2012 6:19 PM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby Thunderbird310,Actually, I have a ATY Radeon 16oo graphics card. Looks like a lot of other people are having problems after updating to snow leopard. Could this be a problem with file extensions? Apple store guy told me I need to replace motherboard at a cost of $500. Computer does start and functions in safe mode, but with herring bone screen pixelation.

Jul 1, 2012 2:43 AM in response to Grant Bennet-Alderby atlagan,Hello,
This was my computer and also four of my friends had the same. And our computers died in two months around february-april, because of the same problem mentioned above. The apple service told us that they can replace the motherboard for a 1000 usd or for 800 usd if we give the old motherboard to them. The problem is neither five of us have the budget to repair the motherboards or to afford a new computer, certainly not a new apple. I am quite sad that my computer died after 3.5 years, which I thought I would be using it for another 3 or so, because it was running ok until I had few black screens during start few months before it died. I wish and hope that apple has a more convinient solution to this problem than paying 1000 usd. I would be really glad if you help me with this.
Thanks
