Apple TV Drops from Home Sharing

You can see the iMac in the computers section though it disappears every so often.

Can't think why your ios devices unreliable mine have been fine with that. Have you tried forgetting the network on all the devices and setting them up again?

Thanks, Alan. Haven't tried that yet but they're each connected to the wifi (they work on each). I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Are you running any VM software such as Oracle VirtualBox, VMWare etc. on the machine where you are running iTunes?

VirtualBox is installed but not running.

Try disabling the "Virtual Box Host-Only Network" in the Network Connections section of control panel.

I did this and have had no problems for over a year. Before that I had the same issues as you.

Thanks for that, though I had a look and mine was empty..

I mean in Windows Control Panel

(control Panel -> network and Internet -> Network Connections) not within Virtual Box

Sorry, have no idea where or what that is. There is no mention of virtual box in the network and sharing centre of windows. The virtual machine is running windows 8.

In Network and Sharing Center click

"Change Adapter settings" which (on my windows 7 machine) is on the left

This will take you to the Screen where you can disable the VM

Is your machine a Mac or PC? I have a Mac running 10.8 with Virtualbox installed and a Windows 8 machine in Virtualbox.

My apple TV keep dropping in and out it is very frustrating and the worst apple product I have. Apple needs to fix this

For what it is worth. I had the drop problem with my older Apple TV. Went down to Apple and bought a brand new one and the problem continued albeit at a different rate of occurrence. I went all up and down these many many many forum threads and tried every imaginable combination of islating 2Ghz vs 5Ghz channels to no avail. I finally ran an ethernet cable to my Airport (and shutting off wifi in the Apple TV) and the problem instantly vanished. I removed the cable and it returned - replaced the cable and it ran perfectly.

At least in my case I am confident, to layman's scientific certainty, that the Apple TV has a dysfunctional wifi system. I will treat it like a hardwired device with respect to it being wired into the Airport. I share this in the hope that it saves others some of the frustration of trying to make the wifi work.

I ended up doing the same thing, I ended up laying Ethernet cables to my iMac and Apple TV, since then things have been much more reliable.

In my case I think the problem was with the wifi on my iMac.

Well I tried Airplay from two laptops and one old school MacPro tower and the Apple TV would glitch on all of them, so I am hanging my hat on the Apple TV having the wifi problem in this house. All of my other devices are rock solid on the wifi, the laptops even work great out on the back deck. Glad you found a fix!

Glad you've sorted things too, though would be better if apple sorted wifi rather than me having to crawl under the floorboards...
