Will home sharing take up any space or slow down my iPad or iPhone? My library is 317GB

I have a large music library and am apprehensive about home sharing because even a fraction of it being transferred would consume my iPad or iPhone. I am wondering if any space will be taken up by using home sharing and if it will slow the speed of either my phone or iPad? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
