Update failed and now big problems

Son updated his iPod touch a few hours ago and now it continues to turn itself off and on repeatedly. Tried to restore the iPod but iTunes says it is unable to due to a missing disk. Help!

iPod touch, iOS 5.1, updated today

Check this article:

"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
