Mar 21, 2012 11:52 PM in response to roytabsby King_Penguin,If it's not pre-installed then no - did you buy the phone in the UAE or Saudi Arabia ? If so then it is blocked by the serial number, and it can't be installed, including via iOS updates.

Mar 22, 2012 5:25 AM in response to roytabsby KiltedTim,If you bought it in a country where it is banned by law, there is no way to get it on the phone, even if you leave that country. Sorry.

Mar 25, 2012 4:14 AM in response to roytabsby nandu01274,This is very sad !!. If I had a clue about it, I would not have bought it from Online iphone store in UAE. I could have bought it from CAR4 or any other shops selling Iphone 4S in UAE.

It is possible that those pariticular iPhones were not originally destined for the Middle Eastern market and have been imported from countries outside of the Middle East.

Mar 25, 2012 4:50 AM in response to The Huntressby nandu01274,Yes that's the point I am trying to make here. I would have gone in for such iphones ( imported from countries outside of Middle East) if I knew that that Facetime is not pre-installed in iphones destined for Middle east Market and sold by Apple online store!! No such intimation on the UAE iphone store !!

It does state on the Apple web site, at the bottom and in small print, that *Requires a FaceTime-enabled Mac with an Internet connection or a FaceTime-enabled iOS device with a Wi-Fi connection. Not available in all areas - http://www.apple.com/iphone/built-in-apps/facetime.html
It also states this in the FaceTime support document - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4319# Note: FaceTime may not be available in all countries or regions.

Mar 25, 2012 5:09 AM in response to The Huntressby nandu01274,I am not talking about my inability to use Facetime app in the Middle east. I am only saying that if Facetime was pre installed in the iphone that I bought from UAE Apple online store, I could have used Facetime when I eventuallly move out of the Middle East to any country where Facetime usage is legally permitted.
Now I am left with a device that could never be used for Facetime apps in any country !!! although I paid the same price !!!

FaceTime was removed/blocked from all iPhones intended for the Middle Eastern market at the express wish of the Government. If FaceTime was that important to you maybe a little research before you purchased the iPhone would have prevented the issue you are now presented with. I'm afraid there is nothing more we can do to help you. You will need to lobby the respective Governments who requested the ban on FaceTime.

Mar 25, 2012 5:35 AM in response to The Huntressby nandu01274,I agree I should have done a little more research but what about Apple's responsibility to clearly inform the customer that the device will not come with pre installed Facetime if purchased from Apple store in the Middle East ?. Even the small print stuff in their website does not explicitly state this fact. Only I will know what I have lost due to lack of clear and inadequate information from Apple UAE. Apple should have given this information in a very straight forwrd manner rather than blaming the customer for not doing enough research !!

Mar 25, 2012 6:29 AM in response to nandu01274by Allan Sampson,In the U.S., you can return an iPhone for payment credit within 30 days of the purchase date. The iPhone and all package contents must be returned to the store where it was purchased with no damage and in working order - this includes the online store. Contact the Apple online store in the UAE to inquire about returning your purchase for payment credit and the sooner the better since the return window for payment credit in the UAE may be shorter than it is in the U.S. if available in the UAE at all.
