    Hi Nandu,

i actually started this thread ..., although i was bit disappointed about the fact that Facetime cannot be installed in our iP4S, what to do yanni? BUT, there is another app that u can use instead of Facetime, Skype! it's actually better because you can also videochat with your non-iPhone friends!

    Hi roytabs,

Thanks for starting the thread. Apple should have clearly mentioned this fact in their Middle East website and that would have prevented people like us from getting short changed.

Like you said, Skype is good but the point here is that we are denied of an important feature like Facetime that could have been used outside the Middle East. Had Apple informed that  Facetime will not be pre installed in the phones sold in UAE, I would have bought my iphone 4S from another country where it is sold with Facetime pre installed. What bothers me is not that I will not be able to use Facetime in the Middle  East but the fact that I will never be able to instal and use this app on my iphone ever.

Facetime is actually working here in the kingdom as I've tried it with my daughter's iPad2 that came with pre-installed Facetime. Anyway, Apple is just complying to the government's requirement. Anyways, there's nothing we can do now. Fortunately there's skype to cover the absence of Facetime...

Yes there is, or there is a possibility per my previous post.

How long ago did you purchase the iPhone from the Apple online store in the UAE?

Certainly you discovered FaceTime wasn't included immediately upon receipt or within a few days afterwards.

If so, contact the Apple online store in the UAE to inquire about returning the iPhone for payment credit.

    Chief,

actually the salesmen here are informing the buyer that Facetime is not loaded on iPhones they are selling....however, they misleaded us by telling that Facetime can be loaded later if the phone is jailbreak...

Is that information/advice coming from authorised sellers i.e. Apple or from gray market retailers?

What does that have to do with what I provided "chief"?

And what salesman are available when purchasing an iPad via Apple's online store in the UAE?

Unless Apple has a retail store in the UAE, whatever salesman you are referring to are not Apple employees.

there's nothing about the "chief", that's just my way of giving respect to the one i'm talking with

anyhow, i bought my wife's 4s even without the Facetime because my daughter insisted to, and i couldn't say no. i don't go for jailbreaking, even my daughter's iPad2 is still jailbreak-free. though i'm bit disappointed banning of Facetime here,  i'm still fine with what our  4s is having with or without..as long as it is working properly

sorry, i forgot to mention that i bought the phone in one of the electronic stores here.,,

My response was not directed to you, and your reply has nothing to do with what I provided.

Good that you didn't go for hacking, which removes all built-in security making an iOS device as insecure as that swiss cheese for security mobile OS that is android.

From my "study on facetime in the middle east". May not be correct, but is likely to be correct

    Summary -

    1) The versions sold by carriers like etisalat and du do not have face time.

    2) You cannot install/download it - as it is not a downloadable app

    3) There is another version with facetime available in dubai and other places. Given a choice i would buy these as these too are genuine apple products - but u have to deal with apple warranty directly. From my experience warrranty not very important. Lower price / higher features are.

4)Monopoly ***** - why would etisalat, du, and apple not inform us that they are selling the middle eastern buyer iphones without some of its key features. Ofcourse there will be some tiny print somewhere. We pay the same price but - Are we lesser mortals. Imagine BMW selling cars in a country without seat belts, because that is the "RULE" there.  Rules should make sense !

5)FT is a good. Whether or not skype is better - i still want ft if i am buying an iphone.

    You said it Jaykrishnan.

I have still not come out my disappointment, more so because FaceTime is now working in Oman but I am not able to use it because my iPhone did not come with  that application !!!. My mistake ? I bought it from the UAE online Apple store!

In all fairness, Apple should compensate people like us who have been taken for a ride by Apple due to suppression of facts.
