hope someone has an answer, it flashes so quickly you cant read it, and just want to know if its a sign of somethin bad or just some sort of software issue etc. which can hopefully be fixed.

I've just been to the Apple store. But without seeing or locating the error message also the guy there couldn't help me. But he recommended to keep 'Console', which you find under your Utilities, open. And to try to narrow the time window down in the moment the pop-up window occurs.

As soon as I came home the window actually appeard immediately after I logged into OS X.

So I went into the Console and took screen shots of everything that happend within the 2 minutes when I switched the machine on and opened Console.

Indeed, Console is displaying some error message of drivers which are unavailbe of an old audio interface.

But I don't think that's the issue. I think it might be related to sound audio stuff like plug-ins.

But I guess I will know more when I take that data / screenshot to apple next time.

Hope that helps!

Hi there,

okay i got one step further now. I was able to take screen shots of the console screen on two different occassions when the pop-up window appeared. Both pictures are showing the same error message:

"(the time) com.apple.backupd: Backup failed with error: 19"

@simonfromwhitstable...maybe you found something similar to that?

Does anyone know what that so called backup is?

I know my iphone is going mad at the moment trying to backup to icloud and constantly asking me to buy more storage space. But since I switched that off and I am also sure that I never made use of such a service for my MacBook I'm not too sure what this "backup" could be?

@walterwatzlav

my time machine is turned off as i dont backup with that,

my flashing boxes seem to be related to

"(the time) com.apple.widget.AppleEvents: There was a problem retrieving the Front XML data:.."

so i think the flashing box must just be some sort of crappy error pop up that just hasnt been configured properly.. I'm going to get rid of all widgets and see what happens with it because i dont think its related to time machine.

and i dont have an iphone or use icloud so like you never used anything like that on my Macbook

so shall just wait and see..

we shall get to the bottom of it eventually.

hi akhi1! unfortunately not yet, i kept doing screen shots of the console (displaying all the tasks the machine is processing) when it happend. but i haven't made may way to the apple store yet and apple's telephone support is a bit poor to be fair. maybe if you can take screen shots as well, now where it is three of us we might find a solution 🙂

@simonfromwhitstable did you had any luck yet?

i will take my screen shots to the apple store next week and will keep you updated!

I think that's it, assuming it's the one that pops up and goes away quickly, since you had to record it. I had even been trying to record it myself, but it never popped up on me then.

I decided to just go to the Firewall settings and block Java Preferences. I don't know if this will work though. It's bug Apple ought to fix.

Anyway, thanks for getting the screenshot. I think you and perhaps one other person were able to get it, out of many, many people trying to solve this problem.
