no WI-FI after IOS 5.1

Right after upgrding my Iphone 3GS to IOS 5.1 I have had serius problemet getting the Iphone to see - even well know - WI-FI. When I open the WI-FI it shown no WI-F spotI. It does not even show my own WI-FI with the Iphone is placed within 1 yard from the access spot. Rebooting or turn WI-FI on/ff does not change anything.

Can see that this is not the first time Apple had had problem with wi-fi.

Please fix-it soon. An Iphone without WI-FI access is just a mobilhone.

Am I the only persen with this problem?

😟 sorry this didn't work for you ...

just a question, did you set it up as a new phone and then restored last backup from iTunes?

because you need to install it as s completely new iPhone, load contacts from iCloud or Outlook or other, download all purchased apps from iTunes again, load pictures from PC, etc. ... do not use any backups from iTunes or iCloud ...

On my Iphone 3GS I have tried:

Complete reset the Iphone with deleting all previous history and starting it up as a new Iphone and no apps installed.

Flight mode / off / on and flight mode off

And other suggestion

Nothing change the WIFI behavior.

Since I can connect to my WIFI when within 1 yard, I don’t believe in hardware failure. Wish it was possible to downgrade software as with Microsoft. Thereby prove the resent to problem lie with hardware or the software.

I have the same problem with my 3GS. Thanks to this problem I am forced to overage charges each month thanks apple I really do appreciate it. I have noticed for some stupid reason I stumbled upon the fact that when I hold the home button down till it brings up the voice command feature then cancel out of it my phone will find wifi signal for a short period of time. (Like 30 seconds or a min) I am very frustrated with this problem. I'm quite dissatisfied with how painfully slow the whole device operates since iOS 5. I can tell you for a fact my next phone will deffinately not be a apple! That new Samsung looks more appealing every day that I have to deal with this junk.

Hey everyone, I posted just over a month ago on this thread. My wi-fi was not connecting at all on my iPhone 4.

I read a few posts before I decided to write my own but it seems like the method that works for me does not work for everyone. Below I am listing exactly what I did:

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

This did not require me to restore my phone.

After my phone rebooted itself, the Wi-Fi tab in settings started to recognize networks again. Because the network settings have been reset, all I needed to do was re-enter the password.

My suggestion is to try this first because it at least worked for me. If this does not work I'd say restore and then take it to your apple retailer if restoring did not work.

Good luck everyone.

I understand the frustration.

I can just say that total reset and setup as a new iPhone worked for me, and this was my final try ...

But one interesthing thing. My wife has exactly the same 3GS with 5.0.1. running, and even though my iPhone is working better than before, hers is working much better wih wifi. For instance on home wifi, while iPhone is idle (screen off) 5-10 minutes, when I turn my screen on it takes about 5-10 seconds for my iPhone to pick up wifi, but when I do the same with her iPhone it instantly shows the connection as it is constantly connected in the background.

So there is obvious iOS 5.1 software issue causing hardware failures on iPhones, and not just older models ...

We can all (with minor or larger issues) just hope for fix in new iOS 5.? ...

Same problem. Recently purchased a refurbished white 3GS 16GB iPhone through AT&T which required an upgrade to 5.1. After that, it would not pick up my own home network (Macbook Pro and other iPhones used prior and currently have no issues).

Thank you, skrznar, for your suggestion. It seems to be working at home, which is a big help, but when I look at the list of available networks, what should be 10 is only 2. At any rate, I am happy to have it working in my own home! Hope there is a fix for this in the next iOS update.

Strangely, I've been on iOS 5.1 on my 4S since January with no wifi issues whatsoever. However, today, I went to sync my phone on iTunes and noticed a pop up that a 5.1.1 upgrade was available. I declined to upgrade, but shortly after, I noticed that my wi-fi wasn't working. Now, in the Settings menu, Wi-Fi is grayed out and says "No Wi-Fi" next to it, with no option to change anything. What a hassle. Not sure what to do now. I checked my settings and I'm still on iOS 5.1, not 5.1.1.
