MacBook Freeze, is it Hard disk or File system?

Hello Everyone,

My Mac freezes and I have to power it down to get it to work.

I need help to understand if this is a hard disk problem or a File system problem? I mean do i need to replace the HD or just re-install MacOS?

Booting from single user mode and doing fsck -yf, does not change anything.

I used Disk Utility to verify the Hard disk and It showed the below error msgs:

Invalid volume file count.

Invalid volume directory count.

The volume Mac HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.

Disk Utility should be able to repair it. You will need to boot with your original system install DVD or another bootable volume as it said in the dialog box to repair it.

If DU does not repair the corruption on its first pass, try again. It might take three or four. More than that and I would begin to suspect the HD may need to be replaced.
