Can't Delete Recurring Event From Calendar

I Have iOS 9.2.1 and my reoccurring event would not delete. I would click on the Event, then click Delete Event at the bottom. It would disappear for a second, then come right back. Anything I tried to edit on it would not save. Finally, I tried this, and turned off my Icloud Calender sharing, Kept my calendars, then went in and was able to delete the event. Went back into Settings, and turned my ICloud calendar sharing back on. Problem solved (after 2 months!). Thanks for the tip!

Exactly - apple are sitting on billions of our lucre, you'd think a few pennies spent on developing a 'delete recurring event' button wouldn't endanger their share value! Feel trapped by them - and they know it!

There is a circle with a check mark next to the calendar name (when you pull up the list of all your calendars). If you tap that circle, the check mark disappears and becomes an empty circle. The recurring event has now been removed from your calendar.

I had a similar problem, but not exactly the same. It's solved, but I thought I'd mention it here in case it happens to anyone else. I created a couple events in Outlook on my PC, which is set up to sync with my iPhone calendar. The calendar on my PC is called "Calendar from iCloud in iCloud"--not the most intuitive meaning... Anyways, I could not delete these two events from Outlook on my PC. Strangely, they were not showing on my iPhone calendar at all, which otherwise was identical to the calendar on my PC. New events I was creating synced just fine--in both directions.

I found advice that suggested deleting all events from the calendar, which I didn't think would work, at least on the two offending events, but I decided to give it a try. Sure enough, they disappeared!

But even more strangely, now those two events--and only those two events--showed up on my iPhone calendar (and no longer on my PC calendar)! Very bizarre--they had only moved from one place to another.

So then I restored my iCloud calendar from the previous day--since I now had nothing on my PC calendar and only those two offending events on my iPhone calendar. Bingo! All events were restored, on both calendars, and the two offending events were now gone.

I am still puzzled as to what happened, but the problem is solved. I wonder if turning off the syncing on my iPhone and then turning it back on would have been a much simpler fix. If it ever happens again, I'll try that first.

Incidentally, I don't think the problem was with the Outlook program, as I tried repairing the PST file (didn't work) and I also tried uninstalling and re-installing Outlook (also didn't work). Of course, it makes sense that it didn't work, since all the events are being stored in iCloud.

Lesson learned--the hard way.

Unfortuantely, all the tips, which worked for others, did not work for me.

However, I finally got rid of the annoying calendar event with the following steps:

• Export the the calendar with the unwanted event into an .ics file.
• Delete the calendar on your Mac. This action deletes the calendar also from iCloud. (There was no need to delete the calendar on my iPhone, as it was already deleted.)
• Open the .ics file with a text editor.
• Search for the unwanted event.
• Delete the unwanted event including the enclosing BEGIN:VEVENT and END:VEVENT tags. Save the file.
• Import the .ics file into a new calendar.

That's all! Writing these steps down takes longer than the procedure itself... 🙂

Please don't forget to make a backup of your calendars in case something goes wrong... 😉

I had a repeating event that was created by an invitation from an Outlook client at work. I switched jobs and no longer have access to work e-mail. I went to: Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars - Subscribed Calendars. I chose the Calendar and deactivated it. I knew it was the correct one because the server address is displayed, which contains the server address of my former work organization and it ends with .ics. Hit "Done" and the repeating event disappeared.

Seriously?! Surely all it needs is a 'Delete recurring event' button??!!

I'm having same problem. Tried turning off synching but still no success. Agree this is very frustrating. I think part of the problem is that this recurring event was set up by someone else I was invited to it but the event (a weekly meeting) no longer applies. They have canceled it but it is still in my calendar. Just keep getting the "server error" message telling me to try again. I've also tried deleting direct in iCloud with all subscribed accounts turned off. Tried it via Google Chrome and Safari (since one comment string seemed to indicate the browser could play a part). No luck. Finally moved the activity to its own calendar and then turned that calendar off on my devices so I don't see it. Its still there - just not seen. I was also able to turn off alarms for it, which was good. Just can't delete the dumb thing.

After being annoyed with this issue for so long, it was great to see that something as simple as moving it to a different calendar worked....well worked in that I don't have to see it anymore.

I tried deleting from this new calendar and I think it has actually deleted ( befire it always would appear again after 1 sec and it's been over 5 mins now and still not there)!

Fingers crossed it stays that way.

In my case, the offending recurring meeting was on the IPhone calendar (Called “Calendar”) not the ICloud.
I was lucky it was the only entry in the calendar so I tried deleting the whole calendar however there was no visible « delete » command. So I added a new calendar (tap Edit tap add calendar…) This time when I went back to “Calendar” (Tap the red ℹ)

“delete calendar” was available at the bottom of the page.
I guess if you can move the event to a new calendar, and delete this calendar, you can fix this annoying thing.

The answer is correct, but should be a little more detailed to fix everyones problem concerning different calendars from different services. Go to settings/icloud and disable contacts and calendars as well. Delete items from phone: yes. Do the same in settings/Mail,Contacts, Calendars for all accounts that have a contacts and calendar green tab on. Say yes to deleting items from phone. This doesn't delete the items from the icloud or internet, just removes them from your phone. Some people will notice this still does not remove the events from the phone. Now plug the phone into the computer and open iTunes. Click on your phone in devices. This should open you summary page of your phone. On the top choose Info. By turning off all the settings, you should now have the ability to sync events from you Mac to iPhone. It should be the bottom last option on the page. Choose calendar and then sync your computer. This will finally remove all the stuck events in calendar for all types of calendars such as google calendar, etc. Now go back and turn on all the contact and calendars you disabled. That's what finally worked for me. Just a note, I have my phone sync to my computer and not the cloud so that also may be an option you may need to temporarily turn on for this process to work. Hope my experience helps. I can't believe I suffered through months of recurring event alerts before I finally did this!

I had a similar problem. Created an Outlook recurring appointment and then could neither delete an occurrence of the appointment nor the entire series in Outlook. The only way to delete the appointment was to delete the series on both the iPhone and in Outlook.

Is there any way to set a recurring appointment in Outlook and be able to delete an occurrence? I get "Unknown Error" when I try to delete an occurrence in Outlook.

Microsoft Support by phone wasn't able to resolve the issue.

Seriously, thank you, even though its years later! I needed your answer! I've been looking at old events for ages.
