No sound on iPad speakers.
Ipad doesn't appear on AirPlay menu, only Apple TV and Dock Connector. There is no sound on speakers. How I can solve that?

I found the solution...
It is probably your docking port needs cleaned.
I carry myiPad in neophrene sleeve an old military canvas medic bag that I use as a messenger bag. The other day I had tossed a pear in the bag in a small plastic sack for my lunch and headed off to the park to enjoy an afternoon of girl watching at the Pathenon area in Nashville (gotta love Vandy and warm days). Anyhow, I had been busy chatting with a few friends who showed up to do some rollerblading and completely forgot about the pear and by the time I got home it had split open from my keys tossed in my bag and had mushed out all over, including through the neoprene and onto my iPad's smart cover.
Now at first I thought no biggie. It didn't damage my iPad and only got the cover damp which I cleaned when I got home and left to dry. But then I noticed my volume would come and go and my volume buttons didn't work anymore. I could not get any external sounds except notification event like incoming email to work at all. Yet when I tried my headphones, they worked le a charm and I could hear everything.
At first I figured it was OS related so I wiped my iPad and restored from iCloud, but after the restore the volume issue persisted. So then I wiped my iPad and started from a clean slate, but the volume issue followed. So now I decided to Google the issue. I read some forum responses and saw others with the same issue so I figured it might be a defect and would have to send it back to Apple for repairs... But darnit I use my iPad daily and can't be apart from my Precioussss.
So I started playing with it, figuring it was going to Apple anyhow, why not try to fix it first. So I examined the rocker arm on the side and it moves freely and doesn't seem to be stuck or anything. Then I checked the settings and function of the lock slide which made no difference. And then I examined the docking port and couldn't see in it well so I put the iPad under my desk light and got out my jeweler glasses I use when cleaning my service pistol... eureka!
Deep in the charging port it looked like it was fouled and had some lint and debris sticking to what looked like some sticky substance... Yep, pear juice.
So I grabbed a micro-circuit chip puller (looks basically like a professional metal dental pick) that I had picked up at my local hardware store (Harbor Freight) for about 2 bucks. I usually use it for cleaning the firing pin area and hard to reach areas of my Sig after range time, and I figured it looked small enough to get down in the docking port. So I used the hook end and carefully removed most of the debris from inside the port and then scraped most of the sticky out. Then I took a synthetic cloth patch from my gun cleaning kit and grabbed a bottle of contact cleaner and got the patch damp (rubbing alcohol should work if you don't have contact cleaner) and I used the pick tool again to push the synthetic patch down into the port and carefully under the plastic contact prong in the port, back and forth to remove the rest of the sticky residue. Finally I took a copper brush (again from my gun cleaning kit... You can buy the brushes separate at Bass Pro, Academy Sports, and sometimes the sporting goods section of Wal-Mart) and used the small single row end of bristles to shine the contacts and knock loose and out anything that might be left (basically use it like a toothbrush and brush the port... And no, a toothbrushes nylon bristles probably aren't stiff enough. Copper brushes work best on contact points).
And after cleaning the docking port... MY SOUND IS BACK AND WORKING PROPERLY! The volume control works again, I have my happy key clicks while typing, the whole nine yards.
So think docking port.

Actually, I found the solution to my problem. It seems that the new iPad doesn't like having the headphone jack suddenly disconnected while playing an audio source. The solution was to insert a headphone connected speaker (any will do, headphones included), start playing music through the device, and then PAUSE the music. Disconnect the device while the sound is paused, and the problem is corrected. All normal sounds and volume slider returned.
Found the fix.
If the reboot doesn't fix it.
If the headphoens work find, but no external speakers.
If the double-click and page right to the software mute, doesn't show the sound knob - just the brightness
If your pop-up shows "Docking Station"
Then, the problem is very likely a dirty connector. The iPad/iPhone/iPod connector uses a resistor value to determine if the device is connected to an external 'speaker'. There are a range of resistances, for a range of products. This is known as the Connector Pin 21 issue.
Take some windex on a que-tip, or perhaps a Windex paper scrub and rub it on the bottom connector port. Somehow, "something" has gotten on those contacts, and it is pulling the voltage on pin #21 down - so that the iPad "thinks" it's connected to an external speaker - this will disable the internal speaker circuitry, as well as the internal speaker volume controls.
Do not over-saturate and short out your iPad. Do not throw it in the sink, do not use the kitchen faucet to flush it out. A Que-tip with a few drops of Windex (or other gentle cleaner) should work just fine. Takes all of 30 seconds - and magically, the volume knob appeared and everything worked just fine.
I found the same to be true. While watching video the iPad 2 internal speaker stopped working. Even the volume slider would not appear. When headphones were plugged in a volume slider would appear and the heaphones worked fine. I rebooted several times and tried switching the mute switch several time, but nothing seemed to fix the problem. Looking at the dock connector under a magnifying glass revealed some debris and possible corrosion.
I powered down the iPad, sprayed some electrical contact cleaner into the connector while holding the iPad right side up so the liquid cleaner would run back out along with any debris. Then I inserted the charger connector (without being connected to a power source) several times and sprayed it again with contact cleaner. After several cycles of spraying and inserting the charger plug, the debris and corrosion no longer appeared under a magnifying glass. The volume slider now appears and the internal speaker works perfectly.
If you do this, remember to use proper electrical contact cleaner, the type that evaporates and leaves no residue, and be sure to fully power down the iPad before spraying into the connector. Also, if you choose to clean the metal tabs on the connector, do not use metal or anything that will scratch the plating from the small metal connector tabs. A wooden or plastic toothpick might work if it is gently used.
I had the same problem with my iPad3 and tried the fixes here with no luck. After some more research I noticed that iPhones have the same issue and it is not hardware related. The fix for me was to use the iPad doc connector (I plugged it into my car stereo) and then turn off the stereo and disconnect my iPad. Immediately the sound started coming through my iPad speaker and the iPad option is once again available in the air play drop down. Good luck!!
Thanks, this helped me. I cleaned the conector without result, then accidentally I triple click home button, the voiceover started, without sound, of course. I triple-clicked again and for my surprise, speakers started working.
I'm not sure what was the solution, if cleaning or triple-clicking, but the important thing is that after 9 months from my first post, my speakers are up and running again.
Thanks everyone for your inputs.
Omg,that solved the problem. I rubbed the connector with a quip soaked in pure white alcohol and ...dada sound again from tha speakers. Although there wasn't any sign of dirt or other stuff, that apparently helped to clear the area of something, and sound again. Fewwww
I also was having problems with sound on my original Ipad in connection to using the Airplay Apple TV. I couldnt find the ipad symbol on my ipad. All that would come up was dock connector and Apple TV. I had tried everything even resetting the Ipad and still no sound.
I read all the postings, and what I did in the end was insert my headphone and take it out and the sound has come back. I am hoping that this has done the trick.
I hope this might help!!!
Thank you. My docking port was sligthly oxidated, cleaning with a clean dry toothbrush and doing a reset fixed my sound problem.
First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.
Ipad Air 2 , no sound internal Speaker when Play iTunes/ youTube , but plug in HEADPHONE = sound is Hear (ok)
that mean AUDIO circuit is OK, but software problem. checking below.
in YouTube video --> AIRPLAY = headphone only ( no other OPTION)
the correct must be AIRPLAY = " speaker Ipad"
for now it is a BUG , APPLE will Fix it later.
to FIX this problem , must do " RESTORE IPAD"
connect ipad to Macbook (usb) Then Open Itunes
1- do " Back up" ( 1 minutes if you did backup before)
2- do " Restore" ( 3 minutes only)
this will set IPAD air 2 back to "ORIGINAL MFG DEFAULT"
***** Congratulation= fix , AUDIO for internal speaker is working *******
now play youtube= airplay= speaker iPad , & play itunes = ok
Note: it is very nice . if you have set up cloud & same apple ID , everything will restore back include , all APP, iTunes SONG/ video
you do not need to reinstall APP , or SONG in iTunes etc...
APPLE made this is perfect . SAVE lot time
Try this: Double Tap Home Button...... Swipe lower bar right until speaker button appears left...... Press Speaker Button.
The headphone trick worked for me too but only after a few attempts. I also used canned air in the headphone jack and dock connector.
Plugging in the earphones, hitting play, then pause, then removing the earphones and start playing worked!! In the past pressing the home and on/off button at the same time worked but not this time. Thanks!
the Qui-tip with a little window cleaner sprayed on it worked for me. I was only getting sound from the headphones, and the speaker symbol (on the home bar) would disappear when I pulled them out of the plug.
