apple tv with home sharing

I followed the instruction for setting up Home Sharing but it doesn't seem to be working on Apple TV. Any suggestions? Do I need iTunes Match as well?

When I try to access music on Apple TV here's what it says:

"iTunes Match

To access you music library in iCloud, subscribe to iTunes Match using iTunes on your computer"

No - I don't happen to have an iPad or iPod Touch.

That's not Home Sharing.

I'm not at my Apple TV right now but, as I recall, you need to access the "Computer" app to use Home Sharing.

iTunes Match is a separate service that puts your iTunes library in the cloud, as well as match your non-purchased tracks.

As stated above you access home-sharing via the computers section.

Well, I have done some testings with the itunes XML files.

There are following files in the 2 different locations:

C:\Users\Username\Music\iTunes - iTunes Music Library.xml

C:\Users\Svein\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\ - .iTunes Preferences.plist

Removing (safe copy) the music library file, didnt do anything better.. same result after I imported one movie.. dropped connection..

BUT, when I removed the iTunes Preferences.plist.. chadang.. working like a charm..

That means, allowing itunes to recreate the .iTunes Preferences.plist file, for some reason makes home sharing stable.

This explaines why home sharing from my laptop was working just fine.

Can anyone else confirm this ?

Here's the message I get when I access the "Computer" app on Apple TV:

"Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes

To access your iTunes library on Apple TV, turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer using XXXX@me.com"

I've already followed this instruction, and it didn't seem to help. I haven't tried what manpowre has suggested.

John, your problem can be related to router issues, not necessary the issue with loosing connection to Itunes after it hooked up.

Are you sure they are on same local network ? is appletv on wifi ? in that case, you need to turn on multicast services for some routers..

My explanation to the xml files earlier here in the thread, worked for 45 minutes yesterday, then problem reappeared.. before that, appletv disconnected every 5 minutes constantly.

my apple tv comes up with that exact message but with my apple login. I have no idea what to do as i already set up home sharing

Apple has failed a host of it's customers by ignoring this problem of Apple TVs loosing wifi connectivity...a problem Apple has not fixed, and Apple leaves users to flounder atound, getting short-lived connections that don't last. Apple should announce the problem and save increasingly frustrated customers useless time and effort. HELLO APPLE
