My iCal is not working properly. It freezes/doesn't let me return to the current month after navigating into future months, and events that are set to weekly show up multiple times in days they don't occur. Sometimes it will also not show any events. What is going on??? I do not have it synced up to any other devices.

Thank you.

    Greetings,

    Questions:

    • What version of Mac OS X are you running? (Apple Menu > About this Mac)
    • Did you recently copy information from another Mac to this Mac (migration), restore your information from a backup, or install a new version of the operating system (Like Lion 10.7)?
    • Was iCal working fine before and then suddenly stopped working?  If so, what changed on your computer around the time iCal started having issues?

While you answer those questions here is some troubleshooting to try:

    1. Backup your data: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553

    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:

    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical

Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)

Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)

---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.

---NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion:

    3. Launch iCal and test.

    Hope that helps!

I have had the same problem for the past several days on my iMac.  I run OS X 10.5.8 and have never synched to any other device nor shared information with any other computers.  I can think of nothing that is different with my computer in the past few days when this suddenly started.

Question for original poster: staredownmeg, did you try the suggestions from MadisonP?  Did that solve the problem?  Any other follow up you can offer?

I wonder if I need to break down and upgrade to Lion...

    Greetings,

You can follow the same steps for 10.5.8 but to get to your Library go to "Go" > "Home" and you'll see the Library folder there.

    Cheers.

    MadisonP,

Thank you for the suggestion.  I followed your instructions, but unfortunately the problem persists.

You may have a font issue.

    1. Safe Boot your computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
    2. While in SafeBoot move Home > Library > Fonts to the desktop (Note if this folder copies itself, drag the original from the library to the trash onces the copy is complete).
    3. Restart the computer to get out of SafeBoot
    4. Test iCal

(If this doesn't help put the folder back and restart again).

    If the issue persists:

    1. Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    2. Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
    3. Backup your entire computer (its a good idea): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    4. SafeBoot: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
      • While in SafeBoot remove the following to the trash:
        • Macintosh HD > Library > Caches (All the contents of the folder not the folder itself)
        • Home > Library > Application Support > Sync Services (The entire folder)
    5. Restart and test

    MadisonP,

Before trying your second suggestion, I deleted one event on iCal that was showing on the wrong day.  Then I restarted the computer again.  Voila!  It was back to normal!  I don't know if deleting the event made a difference, but I feel sure your advice is what got me through this problem, so thank you very much.

BTW, afterward I had to return to iCal preferences to recheck the box to "show time in the month view."

    Thanks again!

P.S. I would happily give you some "reputation points" if I could see how to do it.  I suspect that is something only the original poster can do?

I forgot I had posted this and sort of ignored the problem, as I had other things to work on and worry about... Today I randomly decided to delete one of the repeating events that seemed to be the one showing up where it wasnt supposed to the most, and bingo - problem solved. didn't end up doing anything else, but glad I have the suggestions for future reference! Thanks for the help everyone!
