Q: How to over-write iCal data with iPhone calendar data?

As of tonight, my iPhone 4's calendar will not merge to my iMac.  The Mac with push to the phone, but not the other way around.  I know for a fact that the "correct" calendar is the one on the iPhone (lucky this week I know that!), so I'd like a way to over-write the computer version with the iPhone.

So, problems to solve:

(1) Tell me how to reset the sync history in the newest version of iTunes

OR

(2) Tell me how to over-write data as described above (and pray it works the next time bi-directionally)

OR

(3) Point me to a fix for the original non-sync problem that I haven't discovered yet.

Your help is GREATLY appreciated as I've spent WAY more time on this than intended already.  1 minute sync --> 4 hour issue.

Thanks!

    Greetings,

    Basics:

    1. Turn iPhone and computer off and on and try again.
    2. Ensure date and time on iPhone and computer are the same and try again.

    More troubleshooting:

    1.) Backup all your data:

    Backup your iPhone: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html

    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966

2.) Reset the computer's sync services and then restart the computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627

3.) Plug in the iPhone and attempt a sync.

If that does not resolve the issue let me know and I'll give you a different route.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you SO much for replying.  I finally got kid-free time to try what you suggested.  It hasn't solved the problem.

The response in terminal to my command was:

    ***

There is no (UpgradedbTries) default for the (com.apple.SyncServer) domain.

    Defaults have not been changed.

    ***

So I suspect there's been no change to the Sync Services.

For clarity, I don't (and haven't) used MobileMe, or (yet) iCloud.

    What's my next step?

    Hi,

I am having the exact same problem.  I am not on ICloud or MobileMe.  When I try to sync my Iphone 4S to my Macbook Pro (running version 10.6.8), the calendar entries on my phone do not show up on Ical on the computer.

I have tried everything and cannot figure this out.  I think this is a new bug?  Any help out there?  Thanks -

    Hm,

That should have done it.  Failing that article we'll reset sync services manually.

IMPORTANT: If you haven't already backed up your data  as mentioned previously, do so before continuing.

    1. SafeBoot your computer as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
    2. Login to your user account while in SafeBoot
    3. Remove the following files to the trash:
      • Macintosh HD > Library > Caches (all the contents of this folder but not the folder itself)
      • Home > Library > Application Support > Sync Services (move the entire folder to the trash)
        • Note: To get to the Home Library, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen and look for "Library".
    4. Restart your computer to bring it out of SafeBoot
    5. Once your computer is back up and running, try syncing again.  Make sure the option to sync calendars is still checked in iTunes for your iPhone.

Thanks, MadisonP, for your help.  I did as you suggested, and it solved the root problem.  Now NEW entries on both platforms will sync to the other side.  I finally just went back and re-entered about 15 things from the week or so that was "lost" to syncing, and now it seems to be working fine.  I can't explain why that week of updated stuff on the iPhone wouldn't push over, but it's manually done now and working for the future thanks to you.   You're a great help!
