Installing a PCI card to iMac G3 desktop

Hi, i was wondering since my iPod G5 is not connecting fast with my iMac G3 with USB 1.1 if i could install a PCI card to make it faster. For some reason, everywhere i go, people tell u that u can install it on a LAPTOP, but can i still install one on a DESKTOP?
