Preview preference bug? No "com.apple.preview.plist" per se

On my mid-2011 iMac running OS 10.7.3, I searched through the folder /user/me/library/preferences but I could not find com.apple.preview.plist Instead, all that showed in that preferences folder were:

com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist

com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist.

com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile

com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile

Trashing those four files failed to result in the creation of an com.apple.preview.plist

Your counsel, please?

No, I'm sorry to say, I still could not find com.apple.preview.plist

Here is exactly what appears in my user/me/library/preferences folder:

com.apple.PreferenceSync.plist.lockfile

com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist

com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile

com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist

com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile

I appreciate your thoughtfully quick response and look forward to future help.

Respectfully, Norm

Thanks so very much for your followthrough.

This morning, I changed a general preference and, indeed, the file date changed on 2 of 4 preference files for Preview:

com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist

com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist

The other 2 preference file dates remained the same, but the dates did change last week when I trashed all 4 preference files :

com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile

com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist.lockfile

Still, however, I do not see nor can any form of search find a file named com.apple.preview.plist

1. Would I be right to conclude that OS 10.7.3 does not use the Lion name for preview pref files?

2. What are "lock file" plists?

3. Please consider the Preview question I posted at:

In response to your question: Yes, thank you for asking: I changed a couple preferences, quit and re-launched and they were saved across launches.

I posted to this discussion these 3 questions earlier today. For you convenience, I've repeated them below:

1. Would I be right to conclude that OS 10.7.3 does not use the Lion name for preview pref files?

2. What are "lock file" plists?

3. Please consider the Preview question I posted at

Please?

If you want to delete the Preview preference file, quit Preview.

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.

Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:

Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.

Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:

ls Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist

You should get one line of output below what you entered, an echo of the file path.

If that's what you get, enter the following command in the same way as before:

rm !$

Norman,

I encounterred the very same problem (with Mountain Lion), and found a solution by looking into an another user library on the same computer.

First of all the com.apple.Preview.plist file is located in

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Preview/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Previe w.plist (and not in the preferences folder)

Second, I had a permission problem with the plist file and solved the whole thing by restoring the proper permission.

Hope it will help you a year after your post.

I also had trouble finding the Preview preferences file. I went to this directory under Mavericks (10.9.5), and I got exactly what I wanted. I opened the prefs file:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Preview/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Previe w.plist

Using the Property List Editor, I changed "antiAliasing" from 1 to 0. Now, the bitmap images can be zoomed in any amount and never antialias. It doesn't affect anti-aliasing of PDF files.
