Q: Transferring 10  GB over the internet?

I'd like to transfer large amounts of data over the internet from my MacBook Air to my Mac Mini Server. Both are running 10.7. The Mac Mini Server is running 10.7 Server.

I'd like to transfer 10GB + back to the server. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to setup server to better transfer files this way? Is there a way to setup FTP within OS X Server settings, or is there a way in File Sharing settings that I could accomplish this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! : )

I was able to, and now I can't. I've disabled the firewall by allowing all ports for the purpose of testing this. I can't SSH. Any ideas?

    It definitely is the router.

    But check the following:

    1. external ip of the far-end router

    2. port forwarding configuration

++the following picture is from the user guide++

    - in point 1 make sure you selected right computer

    - in point 2 choose "Allow individual applications"; click ADD if necessary

    3. user name and password you use for SFTP (the same as for SSH)

If you are able to SSH to your mini, the Transmit or CyberDuck will work.

If you are willing to spend a little money, bet a DropBox.com account (or Google insync.com account) with at least 10GB of storage, then allow DropBox.com to worry about transferring the data between your 2 systems.

Once it has been transferred, you can move it out of the DropBox folder to a nother location on the Mac mini.

If the individual files are smaller than 2GB each, then you can get the free DropBox.com account, and move them in groups less than the free 2GB account size, then move them out of the DropBox folder.

    JPM-PL,

Thanks so much for the help! That worked and everything is good. Using Transmit is really the best option for me, so thanks in advance for that.

    Hey Bob,

Thanks for the idea. I actually have unlimited FTP hosting and I was using it for that two-way file transfer but I'd prefer to do it peer-to-peer as it consumes less time. I have DropBox as well and noticed that it's actually pretty slow, so doing this process took forever! : (
