Hi Carola ...
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, includes anti phishing filters, server errors, and it's free.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
Click +
Enter these addreses exactly as you see them here.
208.67.222.222
Click +
208.67.220.220
Then click OK.
More about OpenDNS here.
If that didn't help, just go back to the DNS tab and delete those addresses.
Topic : Manually provided DNS server addresses are higher priority than DHCP's
Thank you Carolyn. I do not know if I am comfortable using a 3rd party application. I am not very tech savy and fear it may hurt my system. Can you explain how this system works?
Carola
I am using Fios. Could this be an issue?
It's not aa= third party app and it won't hurt your system. It's a safer and more secure way to surf the net and should help the "Server Error" ...
If it doesn't work for you, as I said before, just go back to the DNS tab and deleted the addresses.
I giving it a try! I will let you know how it goes.
Not working. I checked my iPad and it too has the same issue. Both are using Fios wifi. Could Fios be the issue? I can get into my company's website but can not get into my department's site.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.
Hi Linc!
Thank you for your help.
I performed both scenarios and received the same error message.
500: Server Error [20-0002]
I also get this message on my iPad2.
Now what?
You say that your coworkers aren't having the same problem. Are they using Macs? Are they on the same network?
Coworkers are using Macs too. They are using Chrome and Safari as browsers.
I have tried with Safari, Chrome and Firefox and I get the same error message.
I am able to get into all other areas of my company site except for my department.
Select ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network ▹ Advanced ▹ Proxies. If any boxes are checked, uncheck them, apply your changes, and try again. You must apply the changes before they take effect.
Ho boxes were checked!
Under " Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts and Domains:" there is this
*.local, 169.254/16
Make that No boxes!
Suddenly the issue is gone in Firefox and Chrome. Safari still has the issue. I hope things are back to normal in the morning.
Thank you for all your coaching!
