delete key not working?

I have a power Mac g4 which is about 11 years old which is having issues. Replacing the battery was a big solution, but since I did this yesterday, I am getting Kernel screens and monitor blackouts, jumpy cursors and the delete key not working.

I have just reinstalled the OS and updated the software, but the delete key still isn't working. The mouse seems normal now, and so far the monitor will come back when it is asleep, instead of going black and staying that way.But the delete key still isn't deleting.

Any ideas?
