Error 1856

I have downloaded a .mov Quicktime file from a class I am taking and when I try to play it, I'm getting an error message that says "Error 1856. Unknown error (name of file downloaded)" I've tried downloading it again, uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime and nothing helps. Any ideas? I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

The 1856 can sometimes indicate strange permissions issues.

By way of experiment, let's try doing a "Run as Administrator" for your QuickTime Player.

Quit the QuickTime Player if you have it open.

In Computer, open Local Disk C:\ (or whichever drive you have your program files installed on).

Open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.

Open the "QuickTime" folder.

Right-click on the QuickTimePlayer.exe file and select "Run as administrator".

Now, while you're running as administrator, try opening the .mov again. Does it open without the 1856 this time?

I tried, even ran a search for it, both from the program file and from Explorer and there is no trace of QuicktimePlayer.exe on the computer. I gave up and just changed the file association to open with Windows Media Player where it all played just fine. Thanks for your help. I'm sorry it didn't work. Hopefully Apple will fix the problem eventually. I googled the problem and it's all over the net. It seems to be a major and widespread problem. Thanks again.
