Sometimes running hot after waking up

Hey guys, I have an i5 13" air. Sometimes after waking up from sleep I notice that nothing is running, all applications are closed, yet the temp according to istat is between 75c-82c. I checked the processes and the cpu is barely being hit. Yet the temp stays at those levels. I restart and everything is under 55c with like 4 apps running. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Did the EFI Firmware Update 2.4 fix it for you captfred?

(mid 2011 model MBAs only)

I have an unrelated problem that will occur if I follow these exact same steps from the thread you linked:

After closing the lid and allowing the laptop to sleep, removing mains power before or after sleep begins, after about an hour it goes into hibernation, which is expected. Now, if I wake the machine after this point without plugging in the power cable, everything is fine. I can then plug the power back in once it's awake with no problem. However, if I put it back on to mains power before waking it, then proceed to wake it, ...

...I get the "none of your preferred wireless networks are available" dialog. 100% repeatable.

I've applied the EFI update but haven't had the chance to re-test. My MBair is in "test" mode right now without istatpro. I'm hoping the update fixed it but won't know for a few days. I haven't ever had the wireless network issue (thank goodness 🙂).

For the time being, I'm only connecting/disconnecting power while the machine is awake. 😉

Same issue here on an i5 MacBook Air 11" which is otherwise running great.

* On a cold boot it stays cool while idle even when it's been on for hours. Also, it doesn't get unusually warm even after extended periods of heavy use.

* If I unplug the Air, put it to sleep for a few hours, wake it from deep hibernation and then plug it in after I've woken it up temperatures remain perfectly normal.

* However, If it's hibernating and I plug it in before I wake it up temperatures begin to soar without any visible CPU load in the activity monitor and without any taxing apps running. Fans run full blast and it gets noticeably warm to the touch after a while.

* If it's running hot after waking it from sleep a reboot or putting it back to sleep and then waking it up again always seems to fix the issue and temperatures quickly return to normal.

Tried SMC reset, PRAM reset etc with no luck. No other issues whatsoever with it other than this.

Cheers

This is really annoying, I avoid putting the machine to sleep anymore which is a drag.. it will be over 70c with nothing running at all and the fans blaring. Might sell this and go back to my thinkpad, I never had to deal with so many small unexplained hardware issues before and never dreamed I'd have to sit and baby sit a temp app while using this the entire time.
