iPod won't connect to Computer or iTunes

When I plug my iPod Touch 4th Gen into my Windows 7 PC, it makes the little noise saying that it has connected, but icons don't show up in My Computer or iTunes 10.6 (Current Version)... don't know what to do now... I tried using MSCONFIG (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2292?viewlocale=en_US) but the message shown in step #14 didn't show up. I've tried restarting my laptop and iPod, using a different cord, and connecting to a friend's PC (which worked). If someone could help with my problem that would be great..!

Hi,

I've had this problem too, but the support articles don't help. I reinstalled 10.6 multiple times but it did nothing, then finally downgraded to 10.4.1, which worked. Now it's doing the same thing with 10.4.1. Every time I've had this problem, the device manager says Apple Mobile Device USB Driver isn't working. I've reset it multiple times. I don't really want to have to reinstall again, any ideas why AMD keeps failing?
