Fan blowing after restart

We lost power at our house a while ago and my compter was on, plugged into a surge protector power strip. When I pushed the power button to restart it, there was no response. I tried several times, then intermittently, I could hear the fan come on for a second or two, then go off again, with nothing appearing on the display.

I unplugged all of the periferals, then tried restarting it again, I heard the start-up "chime," then the fan started running at full.

As I type this, the fan is still running at what I would describe as "max."

Is there something I should do other than just wait?

Thanks in advance.

Try smc and pram reset.

Use your installer DVD and see if it will boot and then run Disk Utility from it to repair/verify your drive(s).

Use the second installer dvd to run Apple Hardware Test (press D after the boot chime).
