Boot Camp "The installer disc could not be found"

Hi,

So i'm attempting to load win7 onto my MAC. Thus far i have downloaded the .iso image off MSDN (throught my university, for all intents and purposes should be as legitimate as an off the shelf copy) and burned it to DVD as a bootable disc image. however for some reason when using Boot Camp im told "The installer disc could not be found"

There is data on the disc however when i go into the disc via finder it appears empty (no icons)... even though it is not (get info > xyzMB used)...

I know most people use parallels etc but if anyone has successfully accomplished a win7 install and knows where im going wrong it would be greatly appreciated... thanks

You can't install Windows from an .iso image on a mac.

what do i do then? I know that other people have sourced win7 from MSDN and have succeeded, perhaps im mistaken i may have even downloaded it as .img... but is this in the same boat as .iso?

How are you trying to install it? On Bootcamp or through Vortual machines like Partelels or VMFusionware?

A physical disk with Windows on it.

I have a physical disk, DVD-R, with the windows on it (downloaded from MSDN) i can see the file on a windows machine but not on a mac...

A retail disk, not a burned one. Contact your schools IT department for any future inquiries.

Soooo... i didn't take your advice.
turns out a) i can install Windows from an .iso image on a mac. and

b) the disk didn't burn properly originally so i just did it again on a different computer, boot camp plus .iso on disc = win7 on my mac pro. no issues

didnt need a retail copy...

What?!? That has got to be the most useless post on here.

All op needs to do is make a bootable USB thumb drive.

on mac http://blog.nightlionsecurity.com/guides/2011/07/burn-iso-to-bootable-usb-flash- drive-in-mac-osx-terminal-via-command-line-diskutil/

on windows its easier you can just download the microsoft iso tool or use pendrive linux to create the bootable usb from the iso (downloaded from msdnaa)

Your comment is uncalled for. And you give the wrong info on installiing Win 7 on a Macbook Pro in a Boot Camp Partition.

It can only be installed from a DVD drive installed internally in the system. Apple has limited the installation of Windows 7 from only that drive. Can't install from USB thumb or DVD drive connected by USB port.

Ok.. I have just installed windows 7 using a USB pen. You just need a EFI boot menu to boot into the windows installer on the USB.

bentos88... Congratulations on getting your Windows version to successfully install in your mac. I am stuck in exactly the same place. I have attempted to burn Windows 7 as an .ISO into a disk but I get the same failed message. How did you burn it "properly"? What software did you use on your other PC that burned it properly? Please share as I am pulling my hair out. Thanks in advance.
