my ipod tough 4th gen won't shut off

my ipod tough 4th gen won't shut off, I try to push the button and it doesn't do anything. I tried to do a restore but it wants me to do an update that I have already done twice. Has anyone else had this issue? Eventually it comes up to shut off - completely on its own - then you slide to shut off and it does then turns right back on! Very frustrating! Please help!

iPod touch, iOS 5.1

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...

Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

Edit...

My following paragraphs were for a Restore which you've already done.

Pushing the buttons to power off or reset the iPod Touch 4th generation won't work if the power and Home button

aren't responding to being pressed. I don't get to the slide to power off option either. My screen is stuck on "iPod is disabled connect

to iTunes" with the guys picture on it. I'm stuck on that screen regardless of what I try.
