Syncing with iTunes Match

Hope someone can help me.

I recently purchased an iPod Classic and discovering that it doesn't update songs during sync. If I update the bit rate on a song through iTunes Match from 128kb to 256kb it will not update the files on the iPod. The reason I believe this to be true is because :

1. The sync only last 5-10 seconds if no new music is being added and the progress bar doesn't show any changes.

2. If I change ID (Tag) information on songs in iTunes they will not update on the iPod (ex. I changed the music catergory on a few albums from Pop to Alternative but those changes didn't appear on the iPod after syncing).

Is this a common compliant with the iPod Classic? Am I not doing something correct?

I have done a Reset and Restore but nothing has changed.
