Midi Footpedal with Garageband for iPad

Hi - I'm currently plugging my guitar into my iPad using the iRig guitar interface, and am very impressed with the way I can utilise this with Garageband to play with the various amps and pedal configurations. What I would like to do is utilise iRig Midi to interface a midi pedalboard into the iPad and use the pedalboard to select the patches/amp selections. Does anyone know if this would work, how it would work (I have very little midi experience) and any recommendations as to the midi pedal board (I'm thinking of trying the Behringer one)?
