Thanks for all of this info. I have tried several things over the last few days but nothing seems to be working. I did download Time Machine Buddy and after trying to delete some files that appeared to be at issue, I finally saw this message, listing input/output issues, which I think could be the problem:

I don't know what the input/output error means or how to fix it.
I have also tried excluding ALL of my applications from the backup but that didn't work.
Truth is, this computer primarily stores my daughter's photos and music, so is there a way to have TM JUST back up those? OR
I am wondering if I should dump the ENTIRE sparsebundle on the backup drive and start again. At this point, I am thinking the problem might EITHER be with the sparsebundle OR that TM is corrupted. Problem is, if I dump the whole sparsebundle, then I have NO back up at all on this machine if that doesn't solve the problem.
If I dump TM, I don't know how to reload it.
Any additional help would be appreciated before I bag it and go to the Apple Store--though I don't know if they will be able to solve it! THANK YOU!
