We have an exchange 2010 server running sp2 with update rollup 1. We have done everything in the post stating that you need to run the commands to set an accepted domain and make sure there are no spaces in the domain name. We are still experiencing random "this message has not been downloaded" or "this message has no content" errors on our IOS devices. I was able to find one thing in common with all of the problematic messages and that is the internet header is missing the following lines:

MIME-Version: 1.0

Content-Type: multipart/alternative

here is an internet header of an email that it can open:

We have been receiving reports from many IT Repair Companies regarding this problem. You are correct, the issue is that the headers are getting modified.

But, who you say..... It's GFI causing the problem. GFI Cloud Spam Filtering is breaking iPhone Exchange ActiveSync. All of these hours spent troubleshooting this problem to find that the Cloud Spam filter is causing you all of the grief.

Here is the fix:

1. Change your MX record to bypass GFI -- make sure it goes directly to your exchange server

2. Send a HTML formatted email from LinkedIn (We used their change primary email address option)

3. Bingo... You can view the email.

4. TechnoKOZ saves another frustrated customer.

Unfortunately, you cannot view the previous emails filtered by GFI.

Since July 2008 TechnoKOZ has been solving iPhone and Exchange active-sync issues and flat rate exchange migrations around the world.

I understand, but the issue isn't Apple. Had the same exact message sent through MXLOGIC -- the message viewable on the iPhone without an issue. The iPhone remains one of the few devices that is Microsoft Activesync certified. Android is just entering the "playground". It's immature when it comes to corporate email. Why does VZW and ATT push TouchDown when it comes to email sync??? It's because they know the built-in email app was serious issues. ---Take out the battery, reset the phone to factory, etc.

Sorry to sound like an Apple snob, but they truly have refined the phone. Moreover these Calendar issues that you hear about frequently are mostly cross platform impurities. Microsoft in the background is improving these with 2010 Activesync, but you have to remember there are many people still using Outlook 2003?

But, in the end, you need to approach GFI to fix their MaxMail protection to eliminate your current headache. The headers aren't missing because of the iPhone --- you need to look at OWA headers and you will notice the culprit isn't the iPhone.

My point here is to help you cut to the chase quickly. These types of problems drive me nuts! 20 minutes ago I received a message from Kevin Jones @ GFI Support saying: "Please try your message again now through the filter."

Before I go ahead with further testing I asked him:This was just one sample message that was having the "issue". Did you identify why the headers were being stripped?

Keep us bookmarked -- We have helped end users, IT Repair companies big and small with various issues from meta cleanup from failed AD to SBS & Exchange 2003 to 2010 migrations. We are now assisting IT Companies setting up multi tenant Exchange systems to provide hosted exchange for flat rate.

I finally got somewhere with GFI today. Although I do not feel this is a permanent fix but it is a workaround for the time being. In order to get this issue to stop you have to disable the SPF feature from the GFI MaxMail controll center web site http://maxmail.gfi.com and it is under Inbound Filtering > Mail Delivery > SPF. You have to disable it for all domains that are having the issue. This worked for us however it is less secure and we are still pushing GFI on the issue.

Mar 28, 2012 12:03 PM in response to TechnoKOZ

They told me that when this is turned on the system is supposed to remove the SPF lines from the header for security purposes however what I think is happening is that it is removing the SPF lines and everything below them instead of just removing the SPF lines only. We will continue to push GFI on this subject and hopefully one day, will be able to enable this feature again as it is far more secure.

I am having the same problem with my exchange address on the iPhone4 iOS 5.1.1 (I was also having this problem with iOS 5.0.1). The mail works fine for about a day and then sometimes when I open my mail app all the mail in all three accounts show "This mail has no content". I also when to my Mailbox Accounts and where there should be the folders "Inbox" "Trash" and "Sent"folders there is only the "Inbox".

I can correct this problem only by powering off the iPhone by pressing the Poser Button and Slide to Power Off, then powering it back on and all the mail is there and the folders as well.

This is very annoying. Does anyone know of the fix for this? I also have an iPad and the same three mail accounts are set on this and the iPad is having none of these problems.

Thanks

All three accounts are Exchange and IMAP and all three work fine until this error starts and work fine after the errors and I power off iPhone and power back on for about a day and then I get the error back. So I ma guessing all the mail has processed correctly and are on the phone, it is just something the iPhone is doing that gets these errors and loses the folders until it is powered off and back on to clear the errors.
