iPad 2 Backup Question

I would like to do scheduled backups of my iPad 2. Being a Windows gal, I need advice! What type of backup unit do I need? I have 2 external hard drives but assume I need new cord to hook up to the iPad? What apps do you suggest I use if I want to backup my apps and OS? This is just in case of a crash.

Thank you

Backup in iTunes is generally a complete back up. With iCloud you do have some options. Apps and consumable content purchased from iTunes are always available to re-download even if you haven't backed them up, but data associated with specific apps - and files like images created with a drawing app, docs created in Pages, etc. - are a different matter.

I've been using an iPad for about two years now (just bought my second one). Back up just isn't an issue. 5gb of storage is free on iCloud, and the iTunes synch pretty much has you covered, as does the ability to re-download purchased apps and content.

I've worked in IT for over 20 years, and this is from a data retention standpoint the easiest device I to use I have ever owned.
