iphoto wont work

I accidentally deleted iPhoto, but when I installed it back on, it says everytime that "You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto." I have tried updating, but it didn't help, how do I do this? and because of this pop-up window I cannot find out exactly which version I have installed with my iLife '09, but obviously the 9.1 update wouldnt work. HELP!

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

iPhoto 09 is v8 of iPhoto

iPhoto 11 is v9.

Go to your Applications Folder and select iPhoto there. Go File -> Get Info and that will tell you what version of iPhoto you have

8.1.2 is the most recent version of 09.

It may be a bogus message caused by a glitch in the Library.

Option 1

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.

If that fails:

Option 2

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
