If the fan is running wild, it is trying to keep the Mac from burning up. So it is doing its job. Problem seems to be that you are hearing it going. One possible issue is that the fan itself is dirty and has become too noisy; that happened to me on a previous Mac notebook and the fans were replaced under warranty (they are not serviceable, so when noisy, out they go).

BTW, is yours a 13" model? Those have only one fan, so it has to work overtime, compared to the 15" and 17" which have two.

Try closing all tabs/pages and leaving only a blank page. Or quit Chrome altogether. Problem may be that some plugin such as Flash may be running "backstage" and causing the workload. If this alleviates the problem, you will have to do some sleuthing to see what the browser is attempting to do. Some nefarious web servers can try to run stuff unnoticed in offscreen windows.

As a test only: reboot into safe mode by depressing the shift key when you hear the chime (not before) and holding it down until you see the spinning gear and the Apple logo, use the machine like that for long enough to see whether or not the fan speed changes.

My top 2 problems are playing cpu intensive games, and doing stuff while charging.

For example, handbrake is converting one of my videos and the computer is loud enough that if I put it at the center of my queen sized bed, and sleep on top, I can hear it. After unplugging it, it has become silent. The computer usually is very hot while charging so hot that it hurts to put on my leg.

I'm going to guess you have an older macbook pro like mine (2008 I think)

My suggestion, get a new one or make sure it is not placed on beds.
