I just tried a batch of batteries that I charged last night and again it worked for about 5 seconds. Each time when I turn off my Bluetooth then turn it back on and reconnect the wireless keyboard it works for a few seconds and then gets stuck on the last key I was using before it stops working properly. One time it got stuck on "w" then the "delete" key. It's very odd. I think it may have something to do with the auto shutoff but the bottom line is that it has been a total waste of my time. I'm so disappointed in this product. I'm open to suggestions because I'd like to get it working and not have to send it back.
Thanks for the link to troubleshooting tips but I've still had no luck getting the Wireless Keyboard to work. It pairs up with the white antenna bug at the top-right corner of the screen but it is still not working. I even reset my network settings per another thread with no luck. I'm at a loss and will most likely send it back as much as it pains me. I'm not even sure I want to go through the trouble of getting another one.
The key lag or delay seems like it's a setting in the keyboard settings/ipad keyboard settings itself. Witness the keyboard preference pane in mac os x. I wonder if it's a accessibility setting...
To rule out third party apps:
1. Launch the Notes app. Type. If the notes app does not have the issue, it is the specific third-party apps you are using. I notice that some apps do not support bluetooth keyboards. Normally, they don't type at all.
But who knows?
2. Look for something in setting that controls keyboard delay?
Shut down any "open" apps. (I know that multiple apps cannot run at the same time on the ipad, but humor me.) [Note: just replicating what apple sometimes has people try.]
Turn off wi-fi and cellular data. Test again.
If this works, some syncing or downloading activity is happening in the background and creating lag.
Given that entering the code works fine, I doubt the hardware or bluetooth connection is faulty.
Post back with results and we'll decide what to do.
P.S Have you tried pairing the keyboard to a computer? Does this work ok?
I appreciate your input. I've been using Notes and it doesn't work there or with anything else.
With the keyboard settings there's is no delay option. The options are very basic.
I turned off the WiFi and the keyboard still didn't work.
I notified AppleCare and a case number was created. I still have to call them.
Try pairing the keyboard with the computer. Verify connectivity there. For best troubleshooting, this should be a mac.
What keyboard is it? Manufacturer/model number?
The ipad 2012 supports Bluetooth 4.0. While it is theoretically backwards compatible with earlier bluetooth devices, Bluetooth 4.0 devices are supposed to be dramatically easier to pair. also, bluetooth devices that loosely conform to the specs may not work with a device that follows those standards more strictly.
With that disclaimer out of the way, let me know how the computer test goes. If you have an iphone/ipod touch, and can pair with that, that would also be useful to know.
Ultimately, if you have an apple store near you, or better yet, a third-party service provider, this may be ideal for that setting as they will presumably have multiple bluetooth keyboards to test with. I do have to note for completeness that the ipad does support usb keyboards using the camera connection kit.
Are there any switches on the bottom of your bluetooth keyboard? Any buttons that might impact its ability to connect?
Could this be the problem? in which case, pairing it with the mac may introduce a "dual-pairing" problem. (see article above.)
Sorry for the belated response. I wish I could help you but my problem was never solved. Apple sent me a new wireless keyboard and that didn't work either. The keyboard, however, works perfectly fine with my iPhone. I've come to the conclusion that it's a defect with my iPad2. Have you been able to get it to work for you?
All the best,
I am having a very similar issue. With mine, I will have the keyboard paired for some time. I am able to type and navigate using the keyboard in notes or Audiotorium. Then randomly at some point, the keyboard will stop working. This has happened with both the apple keyboard as well as the logitech slim keyboard. I go to the bluetooth settings, and it still shows connected, but doesn't work. I have to disable and enable bluetooth to get it working again. Any thoughts?
Do you or have you ever used it with any other devices, like computers? I would delete all the other pairings on your computers or other devices with the keyboard, then unpair and re-pair the keyboard with the ipad.
If this doesn't work, I would contact iresq (iresq.com) or iphonerepair.com and ask for help. If the device is under warranty, obviously checking with Apple in-person cannot hurt either.
iresq or iphonerepair will obviously want the device in their hands.
