Compound layer disable switch?
I have discovered the power of nested compound layers, compounds within compounds.
Layers can be assigned to specific task like colour or fx or retiming etc.
I have described below a little of the detail.
I just realised I didnt check to see if this is described elsewhere...
question
Now it would be great if we could switch layers on/off and bypass their effect.
(no the v hot key doesnt work I believe because it affects all the layers above it)
What is needed is a way to change the order of compound nests and a switch to bypass the layer.
Is there a way that I havent found?
We can easily change the order of Attributes in a compound in the inspector, by dragging and dropping them...
We can turn off effects easily with the blue button.
it would be great if we had similar power over the layers (compounds within compounds)
for your info why compounds within compounds are powerful:
Here is a sketch of how my compounds look at the moment
and how they can be used to great effect.
I start with a multiCam clip which I make into a compound clip. by selecting all and
RMB over the mCamClip > New Compound clip
I call that layer mc5co1,this is a layer not used yet.
I then compound that compound, I call the new compound layer FX (change the name in the inspector)
I then compound that compound and call it Retime.
In my retime layer I select the clip and cmd+R and drag the song to a speed of 125% (with preserve pitch flagged)
We have the same song but played faster...sounds great but what if the client wants to see the clip without that effect?
By navigating back thru the timeline we can go back down to our FX layer
On the FX layer I add light and effects, and note that the retiming is not being seen or heard
because we are at a lower layer.
Now go down to the first comp layer and we see the footage without FX and retiming...
go back to the mCam clip itself and continue to edit using the multicam editor which is totally brilliant!
without all of the distractions of lights, FX and retiming of the other compound layers.
To see everything we:
Go up to the top layer (project level) and watch the entire clip with all its Light, Effects and Retiming
question
I edit the audio in the mCam clip angle editor for 5 channel surround,
then leave the audio in all other compounds as panMode > none
Does that sound correct? it seems to work ok
or should I edit the final top layer for surround and leave all lower layers as panMode none?
is there any difference?
The inspector with attributes that can be turned on/off and order of effects changed...drag and drop.
Top of the list attribute is last in the pipeline.
